Future French Lit majors of America. However, I give the majority of these graduates no more than 3 semesters before they drop out.
Sounds like a generous assessment.
Sooner than that.
With the way universities are these days, that’s questionable.
I posit that most aren't even nice people. They most likely are threats to society.
They will try to make it to the first spring break so they can spend the rest of their Pell Grant

I wonder how many even applied for college? Those that did it would be interesting to know what school. There is a huge financial consideration not to fail these undeserving kids. I have no doubt there are “Special” colleges that will shuffle these kids through to graduation as long as Student Loan And Grant money keeps flowing.
Colleges are dumbed down and you must pass nearly everyone based on a “curve” system. So students can stay in school to pay more tuition. Oftentimes funded or loaned by the taxpayer.
That’s why I no longer formally teach and am considering starting an Engineering “trade school”.
Actual French Lit, as a proper major, is a very significant achievement. There is a huge lot of French Lit, and we are talking of a body of work of extreme sophistication -and variety. It is worth a lifetime of study.
If nothing else a French Lit major will come out knowing the French language in a deep and thorough manner. If you can read, appreciate and discuss Racine, in French, you have achieved something.
Its not for casual dabblers, diploma mills or idiots.
