I’m an American, not a criminal.

This site doesn’t suit you. You can stand in line with the sheep when they take your rights.

I’m not arguing with you about things you made up. Nothing in this conversation has anything to do with whatever axe you have to grind.

I stand by my words.

If you lived under a repressive totalitarian regime, would you defend the lives and safety of your family “in violation of the law”, or would you just suck it up because some judge said you must?
Consider carefully. My decision was made years ago.

Thank you. These children, playing at being men, never having taken a life nor spared one in their grasp, don’t value anything enough to die for it.

May God keep them safe from it, and you and I safe from them.

I’m an American, not a criminal.

Those categories aren't mutually exclusive. Under our representative government, we pass laws. When those laws are broken, the people who break them are criminals.

If some gangbanger guns down a few people, I'm perfectly fine with the police taking his guns away when thy arrest him. Even if he IS an American.

There's a lot of things I might do differently in some alternate reality version of America.

Based on the real world where people have actually been in the position to have to decide how to live in a REAL totalitarian system (as opposed to one defined as not letting people buy bump stocks), the vast majority decide they'll be able to help their families better by complying with the laws they're living under, no matter how unfair they may feel they are.

There will always be some exceptions, and under a true totalitarian state, those people will just be summarily shot.

As for me, I'm not one to take a stand that they'll only take my bump stock from my cold dead fingers.

In the America we actually live in, I think I can best provide for the health and safety of my family by teaching them that it's best to leave the battles to the arena where the laws are passed that we will live under. I'll teach them that getting into a gunfight with an opponent with unlimited weapons to bear against them is insane, particularly if they are fighting just based on their disagreement with laws legitimately passed under our representative government under the US Constitution.

I can think of only ONE situation where a bump-stock would be really useful: to lay down suppressing fire. The accuracy drops with the stock use and the thirty round mags empty quickly. In suppressing fire a 100 round mag would be needed. I’m not poor, but AR ammo costs too much to just burn it up playing.

Naw, his subtle way is to dangle an item then get into negotiations. The President has conceded nothing ... and BTW this issue is a holdover from what happened in Lost Wages, not what happened in Florida.

They are completely useless. However this is not about bump stocks. It’s about “other devices”. Which to a Democrat is EVERYTHING under the sun.

The GOA explains it far better than I can.

I would venture to say that the NRA gave a nod on the stocks after Vegas and will be fully involved in any writing of the details regulating said devices . Bump stocks are idiotic anyways . I think they will raise the age limit to 21 on semi-auto long guns as well .

I completely draw the line at any gun and mag bans . Trump will hold the line on gun and mag bans. I’m also going to send the NRA and RNC some more money . It’s going to be a tough election year.

You are exactly right . I’m ok with the NRA giving Trump a little wiggle room on this . Long game ... we have to hold the congress in the mid-terms.

If the Democrats pass a law defacto removing your God given rights, you are cool with that too. I’m not.

In any functional society, there are effective limitations on those God-given rights. For example, the right of the people to keep and bear arms doesn't apply to convicted people in prison. If it is truly a God-given right, and society has no legitimate authority to limit that right (effectively overruling God), then logically the people in prison should all be able to have guns. I'm cool with society keeping guns out of the hands of true psychopaths, and taking away their freedom to live outside of prison if need be too.

Great. I support you doing that.

Meanwhile the Democrats get to appoint our SCOTUS justices.

Now there’s a sure-fire win if I ever saw one. /s

That’s pretty much the function of full auto fire. To lay down suppressing fire. But one doesn’t have to be accurate when firing into a large crowd of people.

If Trump loses your vote over this, he never had your vote.

That's funny, considering how I marked the circle next to Donald J. Trump in Nov 2016. So yeah, I guess he did have my vote. Remains to be seen if he'll keep it.

Having read the memo itself, however, this is starting to look more like political theater all the time. Reminds me of the run up to DACA. We'll see what happens.
