The Navy has moved forward with funding five potential designs that could fulfill its future guided missile frigate FFG(X) requirement. At least 20 of these vessels will be built, and as we have discussed in detail before, the project is among the Navy's most important initiatives. Fielding a highly capable surface combatant that can pick up many missions currently being conducted by over-tasked and far more expensive destroyers will be essential to providing a more flexible and sustainable fleet in the decades to come.
The $15M contracts were awarded to General Dynamics Bath Iron Works, Fincantieri Marine, Huntington Ingalls, Austal USA, and Lockheed Martin. The last two vendors currently build Littoral Combat Shipsthe monohull Freedom class and the Independence class trimaranfor the U.S. Navy and both of their FFG(X) designs are based on those existing LCS platforms.
Huntington Ingalls will put forward a version of their Patrol Frigate concept based off the Coast Guard's Legend class National Security Cutter. Fincentieri Marine's design is based on the the Italian Fregata Europea Multi-Missione (FREMM) frigate. General Dynamics Bath Iron Works is proposing a modified variant of the F100 frigate, a Spanish design that is also in service with the Australian Navy.

Looks like it still has that weak-assed Oto-Melara 76mm gun. At least they don’t make single-armed Standard launchers anymore.
“...Looks like it still has that weak-assed Oto-Melara 76mm gun....”
Yep, that is what jumped out at me. Too small IMHO. Something with more hitting power seems more appropriate for ‘short range’ ship-to-ship warfare.
Ah , Frigate , pick that one
“Anyone know what the general specs are? Tonnage range? Speed? Helicopter hanger? etc?” Gender?
The gun on the Oliver Hazard Perrys seemed like an afterthought. Mounted high on the superstructure, amidships, with poor arcs of fire; you probably would want a super-light gun there.
Mounted in the traditional spot on the bow, I can’t imagine a decent caliber gun having a significantly greater proportion of the displacement than the Italian popgun.

There are too many friggin friggots in the Navy already! /s
I normally do, but don't have all day to search and browse the linked site for a few details that someone could provide in a few seconds without a smart-ass: "Read the article" comment.
Thanks anyway.
In A related move the US Navy has announced the Barak Obama
class of “honey barges (YG) ......
The most important spec is delivering the finished FFG for under $1 billion a unit.
Your question require complex answers many of which are not simple to relate in a short sentence - the up shot of the discussion by commentators (as far as I read) is that it is between the Spanish F-100 and the Fincantieri Marine FREMM Frigate.
