Air Force Academy apologizes for 'microaggressions' after making Michael Jordan reference in email

A top official at the Air Force Academy apologized for “microaggressions” that appeared in a school-wide email on haircut standards amid backlash to a reference to NBA great Michael Jordan.

Cadets received the email on Wednesday from Master Sgt. Zachary Parish commenting on haircuts that did not meet the Academy’s standards and cast a “negative impression” on the “cadet population and armed service members at large.”

Parish went on draw a comparison to Jordan.

"He was never seen with a gaudy chain around his neck, his pants below his waistline, or with a backwards baseball hat on during public appearances," the email read.

A number of cadets saw the sergeant’s reference as a derogatory dig at African-Americans, stirring controversy on campus in Colorado, according to the Colorado Springs Gazette.

Vice-commandant of cadets, Col. Julian Stevens, sent an apology on behalf of the academy for the “inappropriate” comments, explaining they were “no way reflective” of the Air Force Academy.

Stevens also referred to Parish’s comments as “microaggressions."

"Microagressions such as these are often blindspots/unintentional biases that are not often recognized, and if they are recognized they are not always addressed," Stevens wrote.

PC-crap has taken over our great military. A top official at the US Air Force Academy actually APOLOGIZED for a letter which cited unacceptable attire.

This is total insanity. So it is “microaggression” now to tell US Air Force Academy cadets that certain things are unacceptable.

It is impossible to satirize pc culture anymore.

These lessons will serve them well when an enemy missile is about to blow apart their airplane.

I’ve had with this generation. I can’t print what any of my T.I’S blasted us with back into the early 60’s...Or their antics, but we took it. Some couldn’t cope..so be it.

Obama had eight years to infest our country with his disease and the military took a big hit.

PC in the military only leads to dead Americans.

Say something truthful and somewhat complimentary (compared to some of his peers) about a guy and have to apologize? That’s nuts!

If this weren’t such a sad commentary on the corrosive effect of political correctness on today’s military, it’d almost be funny to read about some poor, out-of-touch msster sarge trying to convince today’s 18-22 year olds to dress like Michael Jordan. Hello. These kids were barely out of diapers when Jordan last played in the NBA. He might as well have been telling them to look to look to Elgin Baylor for fashion advice.

Heather Wilson is probably just as much to blame for the continued ‘wimpitizing’ of the Air Force (and Academy) as any 0bama holdover Perfumed Prince.

The cadets who were upset obviously have too much free time to worry about ‘microaggressions’ and other petty BS. The USAF would be wise to rid itself of these people sooner rather than later.

The Air Force has always been a brigade of wimps and as close to cushy civilian life/ weekend warrior status as one can get. No hate in those comments just unadulterated truth.

When my father was slogging through the mud of Italy in 1944, where they mostly slept on the ground and ate rations, he had leave from the front for a few days and went to visit a friend who was a fighter pilot, stationed at an airbase south of the line. The pilots slept in tents with wooden platforms (not unlike a pallet), ate food in a dining tent on real dishes, which was served to them. He was shocked at the AF privileges.

Sounds more like a micro-reception than a micro-aggression.

Let's review:

"...He was never seen with a gaudy chain around his neck, his pants below his waistline, or with a backwards baseball hat on during public appearances," the email read.

A number of cadets saw the sergeant’s reference as a derogatory dig at African-Americans, stirring controversy on campus in Colorado, according to the Colorado Springs Gazette...

Alright, stop right there. The cadets who may have seen the sergeant’s reference as 'derogatory', might have simply asked for clarification. At last check, the superiors at the air force academy are not there to 'coddle' the cadets, but to turn them into officers. If the statements were too 'offensive' for these little SJW's, they should be promptly excused from the Academy.

Telling cadets to dress to the standards of an certain individual who happens to be black (who other young black youth may look up to)is not, and does not equate to anything offensive, that is, unless one chooses to be offended. It is not the responsibility or ability for the senior officer(s) to control what may offend someone. That is also not the task at hand here.

The correct response would be: "...Yes, the statement was meant to character a segment of the black male population (and of course, probably a few whites and hispanics) who dress in this negative fashion that is un-becoming for a cadet in the U.S. Air Force academy. Instead, be like Mike. He set a good example. If this is a problem for you, don't bother whining to the local fish wrap. Just leave."

See, was that too hard?

No, the microaggression was NOT mentioning somethings are unacceptable/incompatible with military service.

No, the microaggression was NOT mentioning Michael Jordan in a positive light.

Yes, the microaggression was mentioning black thug culture in a negative light because, as you really should know by now, ANY critical reference to the behavior, viewpoints, speech, or politics of one of the favored underclass is inherently biased/bigoted/racist. I don’t know if Master Sergeant Parrish is black or not l, but it would make no difference because microaggressions can be generated at the subconscious level and, any way, occur solely based on whether or not the receiving party’s feelings are hurt.

By the way, the receiving party is any member of the favored underclass (or their self appointed and empowered, spittle spewing “allies” from the “woke” privileged class) from now until the end of time. Consequently, if you have written anything, anything at all, no matter how long ago or under what particular context or circumstance, that could be taken, even in the most extreme exaggeration, as being offensive, it is the same as if you had just said it with full malicious intent to offend.

According to this viewpoint, once guilty of even one such offense, the offending party is a bigot and the only acceptable remedy is immediate apology and permanent withdrawal from further public life. I have a feeling that the Vice Commandant apologized because the Master Sergeant would not. The announced “staff training” is nothing more than a 1970’s era Maoist “self-criticism” session dressed up in new clothes.

Afterwards, those deemed insufficiently repentent (or not repentent at all) will be removed for reeducation. Master Sergeant Parrish is about to get a bad fitness report and PCS orders for using insensitive language while calling out cadets for not abiding by Air Force grooming regulations.

It is said that the fish rots from the head down. The Air Force Academy is where many of the service’s future leaders are born/educated. Let us hope that the PC culture currently infecting it has not matasticized to the larger community of AFROTC units on the nation’s college campuses. The outlook is not good as Air Force leadership was been hosting a massive infection of liberalism for a long time.

Did the Academy ever apologize for the tirade about “racism” after the black cadet faked a “hate crime” against himself? I doubt it.
