Minnesota set a record last year for the number of gun background checks the FBI conducted in the state.
More people are carrying guns than ever before, but the crime rate remains relatively low. WCCOs Pat Kessler is looking at the numbers, and giving them a Reality Check. We took a hard look at the numbers, and found: Minnesota has a high rate of gun ownership, and a relatively low rate of violent crime. Minnesotas violent crime rate hit a 50-year low in 2016, according to the FBI.

shouldn't the word be "and" not "but".
There is a direct connection between the two statements.
One begets the other.
Meanwhile at Chicago...
Statistically, areas with high gun ownership tend to have low murder rates. Don’t expect the MSM to report on it, however.

“...but the crime rate remains relatively low.”
...except in a few selected areas of the state.
where are the criminals in MN?
“With a crime rate of 55 per one thousand residents, Minneapolis has one of the highest crime rates in America compared to all communities of all sizes - from the smallest towns to the very largest cities. One’s chance of becoming a victim of either violent or property crime here is one in 18. Within Minnesota, more than 99% of the communities have a lower crime rate than Minneapolis. In fact, after researching dangerous places to live, NeighborhoodScout found Minneapolis to be one of the top 100 most dangerous cities in the U.S.A.”

Duluth, St. Cloud, and Bemiji (reservation town) also have high crime rates.
Like almost all other “blue” states, if it weren’t for the crime-ridden metropolitan areas, Minnesota would be solidly “red.”
As long as you don’t startle police officers in the Twin Cities area you should be safe.
Let’s not confuse “crime rate” with “gun crime rate”.
Street crime is rampant in Mpls. & St.Paul, Asian gangs steal a lot of cars. Somali’s mug and rape. Black thugs mug and steal.
That said, gun crime is relatively low in MN.
I would not consider St. Cloud to have a high crime rate.
However, in the past 20 years or so, we have had large numbers of blacks from Chicago and Detroit move to St. Cloud as well as a rather large Somali immigrant population.
Assaults, robberies, home invasions, gun crimes, etc. have increased and at least half of the perpetrators are either blacks or Somali immigrants.
Don’t go into North Minneapolis at night or the day time.
