I will be the first in line to give support to Puerto Rican independence as a country.

We could even give it some start-up $ like a sports franchise.

Lease a bunch of land to give them income and us a military presence.

Everyone wins!

Guessing none of the numerous government employees lost a substandard out of code house. Paying for the government employees keeps everyone else poor.

Funny. Most houses in Manila get destroyed by an average 3-5 typhoons per year (and people die) but you dont see them bitching about it. Nor do they need stupid charity concerts, benefits etc. They just rebuild unlike these clowns...

<>The island’s building codes are, on paper at least, the equal of Florida’s vaunted windstorm rules.<>

Wanna build anywhere near the FL coast? Count on a minimum expense of $180 per square foot of living space.

...often even aiding them by offering building materials and other construction assistance in exchange for votes at election time.

Like it or not Puerto Rico is part of the USA. Maybe not in the future or maybe statehood, either is irrelevant to helping them now. It's clear from the zoning and code regulations they are on the right track but they have a swamp too in their bureaucracy, as was evident with the Major of San Juan not distributing resources off the dock after hurricane Maria.

With President Trumps' proposals to cut overseas and UN aid should come a likewise pledge to help our territories. For this to be successful, the grifters, parasites and Clintonites need to be removed or kept out of office, Good luck with that Puerto Rico.

I enjoyed my stay in the Aquadilla area, especially the Punta Borinquen Golf course, cheap, spectacular ocean views, cheap, warm breeze, cheap. Most strokes ever!!
