Obama Said We Can't Drill Our Way To Energy Independence. Actually, We Did.

"We are running out of oil," US political leaders told us. "We can't compete with OPEC. We can't drill our way out of this."

In 2012, no less an authority than Barack Obama said that increased production by increased drilling – "drill, baby, drill," he called it – was not a plan, but rather "a bumper sticker." Obama assured, "We can't just drill our way to lower gas prices."

But widely unreported during the Obama years is that advances in two technologies most responsible for increased drilling efficiency – industrial fracturing (aka fracking) and horizontal drilling – were creating a revolution in the U.S. energy industry. Production became much more efficient.

Obama later tried to take credit for the results – conveniently leaving out that due to his extreme reluctance to permit drilling on federal land, all of the increase in production came from private and state-owned land.

The same goes for natural gas. The number of leases granted by Obama's Bureau of Land Management to drill for oil on federal land under Obama was far lower than any of the four previous presidential administrations.

In spite of Obama's restrictive energy policies, by 2015, the U.S. was the top producer of natural gas in the world, producing about 20% more than runner-up Russia.

Donald Trump arrived with a very different energy policy in mind from that of Obama. He wants to increase production by repealing Obama's fracking rules and make more federal land available for drilling – he even included opening up ANWR to drilling for the first time ever, as part of the tax reform bill he signed into law in December 2017.

As a result of Trump's policies, the U.S. is about to overtake Saudi Arabia and Russia to become the world's top oil-producer by 2019.

“Their stupidity is amazingly consistent.”

I hope you don’t think they’re stupid - that’s why we have so much trouble beating them.

“...progress that Obama never thought was possible”

Of course Obama knew it was possible, he and his people were NOT DUMB.

The goal of Obama and his people was to weaken and tear down the country - admitting the truth on energy production goes DIRECTLY AGAINST everything they stood for. Telling some lies to protect their position is standard in the Democrat playbook.

“Obama assured, “We can’t just drill our way to lower gas prices as long as I am President!””

EXACTLY - it’s sad how many people here still attribute good intentions to our first black president. They need to look past his skin color, and into just who he is.

“Once again a lib is proven incorrect.”

Correction: “Once again a lib is proven a LIAR”. Obama and his people weren’t dumb, they were evil, pure evil, as we’re seeing now with the FBI.

They knew FULL-WELL where we could go regarding energy production - but they also knew that would make the country much wealthier and stronger.

“Zero has proven over and over he doesn’t know shit from Shinola and the morons keep listening to him.”

Nope - all that happened here is that Obama stuck to efforts to tear down this country. He knew FULL WELL that we greatly increase energy production, as it was already happening from the Bush years - but that didn’t work with his plans to tear down and weaken the country - so he said ‘dumb’ things to prepare people for life as a Third World country.

“In addition to predicting peak oil Obama also predicted Peak economy and in both cases did everything he could to make sure his predictions came true.”

EXACTLY - he was making PREDICTIONS, not factual statements. And the predictions were based on his policies being carried out by him and then the beast.

...and they were probably right on target. He wasn’t dumb, and he wasn’t lying. He knew EXACTLY what he was doing, and what he was predicting.

I think the point is that our net energy production (all types) is more than our consumption. But, of course, that doesn’t help when you’re in a huge gas line because of an oil cut-off...and wishing your car could run on CNG or coal.

This is just like is “Waving the Magic Wand” comment the Shinola man made about the economy. Well DJT had one and it worked in less than a year in spite of the resistance he faced.

Nobody said Mr. Shinola was stupid. He’s a leftist, and every time a leftist draws a conclusion they come up short and are proven wrong. That’s exactly why owning the press is crucial.

It is a misleading title.

Energy “independence”? No.

In spite our ability to possibly out-produce Saudi Arabia by 2019, due to our appetite for natural gas and oil products, we import about 3 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, and about 60% of all the oil and oil products we consume. Yes, we are producing more domestically, and that is a good thing. But that production is not making us, nor likely to make us, “energy independent”.

It makes the claims that we cannot drill to the point of “energy independence” essentially correct.

You could hear his intentions in his snarky way of putting things and see it in his smarmy facial expressions. All of the destruction he caused was intentional.
