Three Republican senators floated a fallback plan Thursday to protect hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants facing deportation in exchange for $25 billion in border security.

Senate Republican Conference Chairman John Thune (S.D.), Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio) and Sen. Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) floated a measure that would extend the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program indefinitely in exchange for $25 billion in border security funding.

This is an interesting plan. I know most want the DACA people deported (me too), but this could be a way to get the Wall built without giving citizenship to the DACAians.

Has anyone heard if this refers to money earmarked for the Wall? Or is it specifically for those categories of "security" that do NOT include the wall? Or is it an unspecified TBD item?

I think we need the wall first, an end to chain migration, and the abolishment of visa lotteries, then we can consider how long to let “freamers” stay before we kick them out.

The article says the bill limits it to 5 bil per year. In other words not enough to build a wall and an indefinite amnesty from deportation.

Getting the wall built is only minor step 1. What we need are statutory changes restricting immigration and denying employment to illegals.

The money is for a Wall plus other security measures.

I think during the Schumer/Trump negotiations before the gov shutdown, they were talking about a trust fund to contain the $25B so Trump didn’t have to rely on future Congressional annual appropriation bills to keep funding the Wall.
