It’s actually very effective. I did it once, about 10 years ago when a search for sql help at work got me to a pr0n site. I snapped a picture of the search results with the one I clicked on highlighted and sent it to myself so that if anyone ever asked, I could use that email to prove that I got there accidentally while doing work related activity.

It’s iron clad. That’s the point.

People used to send contracts to themselves using registered mail. This was done to verify the time and date.

In the further things like this can be tied to a blockchain which will provide a timestamp.

Back in the day they called that a Memo To File or a Memo To Record. It was a CYA move so you could say it wasn’t your idea. Still a good move for anybody in the government.

That was the reason for the email to myself.

The link in Google was “purple” because it is the one I clicked on. It was titled “SQL help” regarding a specific issue, but when I clicked on it, it took me to the “bad” site. The email to myself showed a snapshot of the google search page, including that link within other links, as well as the search criteria. If someone “caught it” and accused me, the email was an ironclad defense of what happened.

i.e. if they had taken any action against me, I would have sued, and won easily.
