I took this Jesuit approach to heart after being asked to keynote Seattle’s annual Martin Luther King Prayer Breakfast in January. My instructions were as a white person to speak to white people about the system and culture of white privilege in our country, which oppresses blacks.

I left Seattle for rural KY seven years ago. We love it. Interestingly, a lot of our facebook friends in Seattle, be they conservative or liberal, are seriously thinking of getting out of that liberal cesspool.
What really shocked me is that my oldest daughter is coming out to see us in a couple of months and she and her husband, both quite liberal, are seriously considering moving here and will be checking out opportunities in the area. I think, honestly, they are becoming significantly less liberal.
They live within walking distance of the Market street strip in Ballard and their rent on a small home would buy you a literal mansion here.
Is that the new term for "dumbass" or "lying crapweasel"?

My parents have six (white) daughters. Four out of six of us have been physically attacked by black men in separate incidents in different American cities. I do not hold all black people responsible for the actions of the six black individuals who jumped us/held knives to our throats, etc. (The men number six because two of us were attacked by two men at one time.) So, why are ALL white people “privileged”, according to this priest? Essays such as this one do nothing but inflame people on account of their (the essays’) stupidity and blatant unfairness.
I find it impossible to be concerned about a group that does and has done little but tear this country apart. Nevah happen, GI.
Same here. Left Seattle 2007 for rural North Dakota. Was an amazing breath of fresh air. Monster culture change too from flaming liberal to traditional conservative.
“White privilege”....you mean a far greater chance that whites have an in home father, that he works for a living, that he is not drug addicted, that the children stay in school?? That “white privilege”?
