I couldn’t begin to say whether there is a definite parallel, but Japan is in the midst of suicide by low birth rate.

As was Germany. That's what really happened. The politicians suddenly started noticing their socialistic ponzi schemes couldn't be maintained unless the number of people in the country was growing. Unfortunately they chose ... poorly ... when they decided how to fix the problem. While the immigrants they found to supplement their populations, do reproduce quickly, the culture they bring with them is the most destructive on the planet.

The reality is that socialistic ponzi schemes can't be maintained unless the number of TAXPAYERS in the country is growing. They are importing hordes of tax consumers, and their welfare state will collapse very soon. Think Venezuela.

My wife and I got about $3,000 from the Japanese government upon the births of each of our children. Young Japanese people regard that as a trivial sum in comparison with the cost of raising children.
