Legendary crooner Vic Damone passed away on Sunday at the age of 89, his family tells Fox News.

Damone, whose smooth baritone led Frank Sinatra to famously declare he “had the best pipes in the business,” died at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, Fla., surrounded by several close relatives.

Damone also received a call from his friend, President Donald Trump, at the hospital in the days before he died, his family said.

I thought he had already passed.
I think Vic used to be married to Diane Carrol.
Diane is one of the first black women to star in her own comedy show. This was ages ago.

And I’m pretty sure he was married to Pier Angeli first??? She committed suicide at some point. There was a restaurant/bar in Fresno, Ca. that he owned called Damone’s. My brother, all my groomsmen, and ushers, all in tuxedos, were headed to my wedding back in the late 50’s, and stopped there first for a drink. The bartender wouldn’t take any money for the drinks, and they were having such a good time, all of them were tipsy, and LATE, for my wedding. The bartender presumed they were the band showing up at the club.

Nice Italian boy. Born Vito Rocco Farinola

From Wikipedia

Damone was born in Brooklyn, New York, to Rocco and Mamie (Damone) Farinola, Italian immigrants from Bari, Italy. His father was an electrician and his mother taught piano. His cousin was the actress and singer Doretta Morrow. Inspired by his favorite singer, Frank Sinatra, Damone began taking voice lessons. He sang in the choir at St. Finbar’s Church in Bath Beach, Brooklyn, for Sunday Mass under organist Anthony Amorello.

When his father was injured at work, Damone had to drop out of high school. He worked as an usher and elevator operator in the Paramount Theater in Manhattan.[2] He met Perry Como, while at the Paramount Theater. Damone stopped the elevator between floors, sang for him, and asked his advice if he should continue voice lessons. Impressed, Como said, “Keep singing!” and referred him to a local bandleader. Vito Farinola decided to call himself Vic Damone, using his mother’s maiden name.

I was never a Damone fan and don’t have any of his records; but whenever I hear him on the Sirius Sinatra channel, I usually enjoy his singing. R.I.P.

Frank Sinatra once said that of all the singers who were his contemporaries, Vic Damone had the best voice of all.

Too bad, Vic has not recorded in a while ( unlike Tony Bennett ).

Rest in Peace.

I remember when he did radio commercials for Coppertone lotion.
“Vic Damone for Coppertone.”

Guess that dates me.

Wow. You have a full story to remember Vic by.
I didn’t know he had a restaurant.
It sounds like you had a very large, organized and expensive wedding ceremony. No eloping into the night and running off to Vegas for you. Thank you for sharing that episode of fun.

My wife just mentioned the Coppertone thing. Guess that dates her also. And I’m five years older than her. Think what it does to me!

RIP Vic Damone.

1965.
A kinder, gentler time, unless you were in Viet Nam...

“Saturdays With Sinatra” (WNEW-FM) was hosted by Jonathan Schwartz, and it was exceptional!

One night he told this story; Sinatra was being interviewed , and the question was, “You have everything a man can want - if you could have ANYTHING more, then what would that be?”

Sinatra replied, “To sing like Tony Bennett.”

Maybe he was speaking sarcastically?
