WIC is a big pusher of Formula for 1 yr, which is to high in sugars and makes FAT babies. As it’s free mothers use it the full year. Other foods are added at age appropriate. Peditricians don’t want water introduced until 6 months now...uh, formula is mainly WATER!
My grand daughter is 5 months and is chubby on that formula, WIC only uses Similac as they made a deal with the company for cheaper prices. They still have not introduced puried baby food. So she doesn’t know how to eat from a spoon yet. Her mom couldn’t make enough milk for her, as a lot of the ducts were removed in a breast reduction.
I had my boys on skim milk and baby rice cereal within 2 months. Pureed my own fruit and Veggies, Potty trained by 14 months on cloth under wear.
I suspect the less expensive Gator aid would do the same thing, just water it down a couple of ounces. Dyes could be a big issue to avoid. My youngest didn’t tolerate red dyes at all.
My daughter was on formula for a while. Maybe six months. She had trouble switching over to cows milk. Found a milk that had acidophilus in it and that worked best.
Didnt fatten her but made the switch easier
My oldest couldn’t tolerate even soy based or any of the regular formulas on the market at the time, the Ped put him on some very expensive stuff that had to be ordered. Found out later it was FAT that was the issue. We’d tried goats milk even. All 3 of my boys had the same issue with it, guess it’s genetic as I don’t tolerate much dairy well.
