Myself and my P2 dug carefully for about two miserable cold wet muddy hours till we found an old windmill sucker pump bullet weight that had leather washers this “army” 4.2 Mortarman had positively identified ...... as a 4 deuce with charge bags still on it ...... we were less than pleased.

Back in WWII the base was a bombardier / navigator school where most of the old M117’s were filled with concrete for training purposes . They would drop a few dozen concrete filled and 2 live ones at the end of training.
We checked out a 45 pound pentolite shape charge and blew his concrete training bomb all to hell as we were done digging up his scrap metal ...... note. Cattle on a ranch love to gather around trucks that they may be carrying feed .
