Could a 24-48 hr shutdown give the President time to seize Agency Intel and computer IT assets? Start perp walks upon gov return to work?.

I have an odd theory. When all the secretaries are not sitting at the desk, and support personnel are sitting at home. When the offices are closed. It would be a good time to issue subpoenas and search warrants.

I get the feeling everyone up there who has to work with him are tired of his antics.

Who gives a flying doughnut what they think? The only thing that matters to me is what I think. I know what is right and wrong. And in this case, our buddy is right!

“..which would raise government spending, avert a government shutdown and lift the debt ceiling...”

In light of that line, I’d say Rand Paul is the ONLY one there doing exactly what he’s supposed to be doing.

Whether “everyone who has to work with him is tired of his antics” or not is irrelevant.

He was sent there to do a job, not to be part of a popularity contest. And he’s doing his job as he sees fit.

We have a chance to repair our Country, and “our” side (with the exception of a few) appears to be a bunch of feckless twits playing games with the enemy.

“Once they took out the Bannon threat, McConnell and the rest of the congressional swamp were free and clear to get their old uniparty groove on.”

they all join hands when it means they can spend money that they didn’t earn

and acting like this is all to benefit the military...

I thought we were supposed to be the party of limited government. We’re supposed to be the constitutionalists. Why are FReepers attacking Rand Paul for standing up for our principles? Good for him.

We have too much government anyway. I stand with Rand.

yes, yes. that’s your standard schtick; everyone that disagrees with you is somehow impure or dishonest.

What schtick?

If you are a conservative, you would oppose this bill and hope Trump vetoes it.

Did the Democrats seek Republican input on Obamacare? Where was the compromise and working together then?

Why are FReepers attacking Rand Paul for standing up for our principles?

Simply because his last name is Paul and FReepers are still pissed over Ron Paul's presidential run which created the populist-Tea Party movement to begin with.

If Cruz was pulling this they'd be having multiple orgasms.

Interesting, there -is- precedent for doing that...

they canned someone while he was on travel (was it Comey?) and could very well have gone thru his office files.

“This is one of those times for the latter. He’s going to singlehandedly keep me from going to work in the morning.”

You work for the fedgov?

And you’ve got the nerve to complain?

Actually, I’m wondering where Cruz and Lee are. They should be joining in.

Any grandstanding which impedes Trump strengthens his and our (or at least MY) enemies. Most people don’t understand that the Fed owns a third of the debt hence receives interest payments which, along with any other profits, is given the US Treasury.

Another interesting point is that there is no accounting for the federally owned assets. If we buy an aircraft carrier all that shows on the books is the 2 billion to buy that aircraft carrier not the 2 billion it is worth as an asset. If books were kept as they are in a private business the net national debt would be much less.

That’s all well and good - but WHERE can that kind of cuts be made? Everyone has their pet project or area of government funding that they just won’t turn lose of.

How about taking a little peek at the Constitution for some guidelines as to what should and shouldn’t be part of the Federal government and its financial outlay of the PEOPLE’s money:

National Defense - #1 (and one of the few) legitimate and Constitutional expenditures we have.

Enforcement of imports and exports...

And little more is included in the standards Not food stamps. Not welfare. Not insurance (except I believe taking care of veterans who you promised care to is urgent). Social Security... nope Disability... Nope.

Well you see, unlike many, I actually "work" for a living. I'm not the type of government worker that is always castigated here on FR. I don't make a whole of money, I barely have two nickels to rub together between paydays, and have been the victim of the cronyism and nepotism that are prevalent in the government system.

So before you get the pitchforks and nooses out, just remember that there are those within the government who are just and honorable people who are just as much a victim as those without.

Yes, we also see the waste and we see how people have scammed the government to draw two to three retirements and live in luxury when many in the American public live in poverty, a fate I will share when I eventually retire.

So take your hatred of everyone who works for "fedgov" and shove it. Not everyone of us is the monster you make us out to be.

This is one of the times I agree with Rand - he’s sticking a pin in McConnell’s eye over his cave to the dems in this “bi-partisan” “budget”....

Rand Paul seems to be against busting the budget with unlimited deficit spending. Here’s what I am wondering, once this budget goes into effect, can the president freeze spending on certain items via executive order?
