A college student said she flushed her emotional support hamster down the toilet after Spirit Airlines refused to let her bring her furry pet on the plane.
Belen Aldecosea, 21, of Miami Beach, Florida, told the Miami Herald that she contacted Spirit Airlines before her flight from Baltimore to South Florida on Nov. 21, 2017, regarding traveling with her dwarf hamster, Pebbles. Aldecosea claimed the airline told her it was not a problem to bring her hamster on the flight.
However, when the student arrived at the airport she said the airline refused to let Pebbles on the plane. Aldecosea said she did not have many options since her family was in Florida and her friends were hours away. The student claimed a Spirit employee suggested she either flush Pebbles down the toilet or let the animal free.

If she’s that emotionally fragile that she needs to carry a hamster around with her all day, then she’s not mature enough to fly alone. This is ridiculous.

On the one hand, the airline “acted stupidly”. People bring small dogs on planes all the time. Why would this be a problem?
On the other hand, I’m prejudice against snowflakes. Anyone that has to carry around a “emotional support pet” better have a prescription for a medical condition if they expect special treatment.

Her parents should have demanded she be treated like a minor, and only hand her over to a relative who presented a photo I. D.
A 21 year old needed a hamster, for moral support? Really? Nobody in the family sees a problem here?
* This means the hamster was in the superior position. She wasn’t there to calm it. It had to be there to calm her.
* The hamster had more emotional stability than she did.
Do they think she’ll be safe at the university?
Does the article say anything about what ultimately happened to poor Pebbles!?
I hate small dogs on planes as well. Took a flight to Montana last year, and this lady had her dog in her bag. Dog took a crap about an hour into the flight and we enjoyed the sweet scent of dog poop all the way to Bozeman. That’s why they make pet carriers and cargo holds.
What I dont believe about this story is everything. I do believe this snowflake is a sick puppy and something bad happened to the hamster.
She would flush the poor thing rather than set it free? What a monster. She does not need an emotional support animal, she needs a rubber room.
Oh, she DID flush Pebbles. So much for the emothional support part.
