Minors with parent/family here cannot be turned away because of gang affiliation, there has to be criminal convictions or something else for them to be turned away. No idea why that is the case, but even those that are known to be gang members by their own country are allowed to cross the border because of family ties.
Remember that the next time you hear liberals crying that conservatives are trying to split up illegal families.

You are absolutely wrong about that. There has been very significant changes made. Some things are harder to change than others because of laws that have been passed, and lawsuits by activist groups. Those changes are happening though some take longer than others.
For many, many years the policy has been one of not enforcing immigration law- and many roadblocks have been put in place to slow or prevent enforcement by those that support open borders and illegal immigration. Those roadblocks must be cleared.

Having troops in Afghanistan is not really as useful as having troops on the Mexican border. If the president has the authority to put troops in Afghanistan, he has the authority to put troops on the Mexican border. It will end up saving more American lives.
