With 53 passengers the question is how can they afford to operate? Once again proving that 19th century passenger technology only works if it is heavily subsided. How many more decades will it take for Amtrack to realize a breakeven point on this route alone?

Amtrack is the symbol of the utter dysfunction, failure, and neglect displayed by those in power at every level in this country for decades: City, State, and Federal.
19th Century technology indeed. And more obviously: how are trains supposed expected to run in the thick of SWAMP?
DRAIN IT ALL PLEASE!

Amtrak needs to be scrapped. I would be OK with not subsidizing north east commuters anymore.

They had hundreds of paying passengers.
But only 53 were on-board.

Very late-20th Century technology...Acela Express trains entered service in December 2000.

The Washington to New York run actually turns a profit. The rest of the system, not so much.
