Why are they even allowed to operate at this point? Seriously?
Strange how everything seems to be falling apart since that memo became unclassified.
But I’m sure there’s a logical explanation for the coincidence.
Or declassified rather.
Not clear from the -typically lousy writing! - what happened. Obviously, the coupler broke completely, or lost its “locking pin” and opened up to release the cars behind - but the did the hoses remain hooked up and that was what was pulling the cars behind as the train slowed?
The following car(s) would not have automatically tripped on their brakes unless the air hoses themselves were broken. So what did the engineer do? How did he know the coupling opened up - a phone call from behind in the back cars?
“decoupled” and “breaking apart” are two very different things. From the headline you’d think one of the cars busted open and spilled passengers all over the tracks.
Where was the GOP going this time?
The overall fatality rate for long-haul train service is 0.43 per billion passenger miles. Excluding pedestrians and others not on trains 64% of total fatalities assigned to railroads the fatality rate is approximately 0.15 per billion passenger miles.
There are 120,000 species on Earth that fly but only one that takes a train.
Typical government-run anything...typical.
Amtrak is more dangerous than Kabul Afghanistan. That is what you get with government Transportation. Amtrak should shut down right now and be sold to the highest bidder.
Reminds me of an old Dick Cavett joke. “The trains are rolling again. One rolled down an embankment this morning.”
Once is an accident
Twice is a coincidence
Three times is enemy action
“broke apart”?
Did anyone one else read the headline and think “My god, what a disaster! There must be many deaths” - only to read that it really DIDN’T break apart.
It suffered a major mechanical breakdown - but the train didn’t go off the tracks and thankfully, no one was killed or injured.
The people who write these stories need to work a bit harder at phrasing the headlines properly.
(Corrected quote:)
Once is an accident. Twice is a coincidence. Three times is an enemy action.
(Taken from Ian Fleming’s novel Goldfinger)
If a train, traveling 125 mph, leaves Point A at eleven o’clock, breaks into two parts at noon...how many passengers arrive at Point B by one o’clock?
Again?
4 accidents in a couple weeks?
I was going to post “In before the Deep State gets blamed!”, but I guess I’m way too late!
This is no way to run a railroad.
