Trump's shot heard round the civil-service world

Pencil pushers. Desk jockeys. There are a lot of names for the bureaucrats who fill the offices of the federal government.

President Trump says they, and their work, need to be examined more closely.

He fired a major shot in the effort to enact civil service reform during his State of the Union address, creating what one leading workforce expert hopes will be an effort to root out the “intransigence and incompetence” from the federal workforce.

In his speech, Trump hailed the passage of legislation in 2017 that gave more authority for Veterans Affairs Secretary Dr. David Shulkin to fire people failing to perform at levels needed to provide veterans the service they deserve. He then said that flexibility should be available to all cabinet secretaries.

“Tonight, I call on Congress to empower every cabinet secretary with the authority to reward good workers and to remove federal employees who undermine the public trust or fail the American people,” said Trump.

American Legislative Exchange Council Education and Workforce Development Task Force Director Inez Stepman studies civil service issues and detailed the problem in a Federalist column Wednesday.

Stepman says getting rid of most incompetent and uncooperative federal workers is exceedingly difficult.

Just like one "AWW S**T" can negate a lifetime of "ATTA-BOYS", a few assclowns can make an entire organization look bad. If strong leaders are in place, over time, a case can be built for terminating the chaffe. Takes a LOT of patience and considerable effort to do. This may change that.

I bet you could fire 50% of the bureaucrat parasites and no one would notice. Well...maybe the accessing porn from government computers on work time would go down...

In the Federal Bureacrazy it is not "a few assclowns" we are dealing with. It is much more.

I have been waiting a year for Trump to start populating Gitmo with bureaukrats. So far, Trump is a failure.

If you eliminate waste, inefficiency, and incompetence in the federal bureaucracy, you eliminate the federal bureaucracy.

You’re definitely onto something. Think about it, everyone is talking about McCabe resigning. That would mean that he is walking away, with nothing, when he’s about 6 weeks from getting his full retirement. So, is he resigning? Or is he on terminal leave, until he hits his retirement date? If he gets charged before he retires, he’s probably not eligible, until the case is adjudicated. But, if he signs his papers at 0800 and he’s indicted at 0801, then he collects.

Lois Lerner is another shining example.

I realize that there has to be some protections, but, we can all thank FDR, for it. Amazing how a commie’s in government, from so long ago, continue to damage this country.

Let's root intransigence and incompetence from Congress first. Make an example.

I believe McCabe would have to be actually convicted of one of a very few specified crimes before his pension is jeopardized. Indictment doesn’t matter.

American Legislative Exchange Council Education and Workforce Development Task Force

Almost sounds like a bureaucracy in its own right

If Donald Trump succeeds--and I'm betting that he will--history will record him as one of the greatest Presidents in US history--perhaps the greatest--and one of the greatest heroes of world history.

The people who do not see this, who do not understand who and what he is and what he is attempting, who are opposing him, are too stupid or too sclerotic for TRUTH to penetrate their minds and souls.

No doubt there are some who do understand but are sufficiently evil to oppose him,

But most, who oppose him, are either stupid or locked in groupthink or afraid of TRUTH.

Why send them to Gitmo and make the taxpayer pay for their upkeep? If they’re bad people or low performers, fire them and send them packing. Once the firings start, it will be miraculous how the performance of those remaining will improve.

Had the prior administration had that authority, bureaucrats who did undeserved harm to conservatives would have been rewarded. So beware of unintended consequences; the RATs may return to power some day!

With a lot of them you'll play hell getting around the race issue.

It might not be a good time to be one of those "non-essential employees" who get snowstorms off.

Federal employees must be the very smartest, highly educated people the world can offer. This level of proficiency is required to engage in a complex exercise in process where information can be passed around in an endless circle with no tangible result.

If this should come to pass, the old ‘last hired-first fired’ train of thought has to be stopped.

The firings should be based on performance rather than seniority BUT have to insure people aren’t canned just because they are near retirement UNLESS, of course, they have become dead weight— then the competency kicks in.

Then again, Congress has to be ‘careful’ on the requirements they dish up as some may think Congress has to be operated the same way.

If a McCain situation were to arise in the private sector, he wouldn’t get fired - maybe retired with the full package (dependent on length of service) BUT someone would be appointed to do his DAY TO DAY duties, such as meeting with subordinates and have the ‘authority’ to act on behalf of the company - or in McShames case, he is not giving his constituents the full benefit of his being elected by THEM. (Just using as an example, many ‘Public Servants’ have had to be ‘wheeled into’ their office in order to ‘act out’ doing their ‘duty’.

Ginsburg comes to mind... How many of our representatives are in a ‘sick status’ or unable to do their daily duties?

Ban unions from the Federal work force.

Make Federal contractors to be ‘Right to Work’ organizations.

Make Federal jobs no pay during shutdowns. No work = no pay.
