"I think if Frank Church were here to talk about it, he would agree that SSCI and HPSCI have fallen short of their hopes. He hoped there would be regular scrutiny of intelligence programs. It's turned out that that's been an up and down proposition. Sometimes, after media reports on scandal or failure, [we get vigorous oversight]. Sometimes it's quite lax

This is how Democrats on the House Intel Committee used to view the FBICia etc. - with a jaundiced eye and desire to hold the top cops accountable.

Today's Dems would ostracize Frank Church

Of course you can’t kudt pasd a law or amendment and expect it to work forever. Government needs to have everything reviewed all the time and they need to have the rug yanked from under them. Those that hang on to the rug get to stay. After all they are the highest paid people in the country.

The Democrats believe its justifiable to use the DOJ/FBI as a tool against their opponents.

If the tables wereb turned, they would be outraged.

They don’t really mind law enforcement abusing its power - as long its Republicans and conservatives who are on the receiving end of it.

Might makes right. That’s an argument for the means justify the end is as old as recorded history.

Freepers need to understand the Deep State pleasure in causing chaos and “churn” for Americans.

One way they keep us divided and off guard is by preventing resolution of injustice.

Keep flagging the problem, but no one ever brings it home to jail time or other equitable resolution.

Same as Congress loves to talk but never does anything constructive.

It’s a over of churn, conflict and chaos while they do what they please.

Odd how the oversight seems to fall on Republican
administrations and is quite lax on others...

United States v. United States District Court, 407 U.S. 297 (1972) ["Keith" case]

That was a substantial factor in creating and passing FISA.

Frank Church and his Senate committee set the CIA and intelligence gathering back to the ice ages. They revealed the names of operatives working in Russia and communist countries and decimated the agency. we lost some top undercover people, mostly foreign nationals on the CIA payroll. Some were executed, some just disappeared. Once cooperative intelligence agencies in Britain, France, Italy, the Netherlands now were reluctant to share info and they definitely would not share anything which could lead to one of their sources. Church and his committee did immeasurable damage to this nation then and to agree even onto today.

divide and conquer - deep state loves it

Actionable item ? - defund the FBI. We prospered for 130 years without a federal secret police. we do not need the fbi today

Agreed. The CIA is a “standing army” too. Our Founders would not have allowed that sort of power grab by unelected agencies.
