Do you look up at the telephone or electrical wires as you walk? Do they bother you? I bet not. The wire put up to delineate an eruv is just about as noticeable. In fact, if you don't know what you're looking at, you'd miss it. It is a symbolic way of combining all the little domains between buildings into one big domain so that observant Jews may carry things on the Sabbath without breaking the edict against carrying objects from one domain to another. If you are a non-Jew or a non-observant Jew, the eruv will make absolutely no difference in your life. To claim otherwise is ridiculous.
