NASHVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Mayor Megan Barry admitted Wednesday to having an extramarital affair with her former head of security, according to WKRN News 2. In a prepared statement, Barry writes, “I accept full responsibility for the pain I have caused my family and his.” The mayor goes on to apologize to her husband Bruce, “who has stood by me in my darkest moments and remains committed to our marriage, just as I am committed to repairing the damage I have done.” The statement continues, in full:

I had a cousin, much older than me who was on the Sunday School Board in Nashville for many years. After retirement they returned to this area where he was again active in local churches for many years.
They returned to Nashville in their very last years to be near their children. I talked to him about a year before he died and he said they hated Nashville. It had gone way down from what he remembered.
