A leading candidate for the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate in Missouri recently blamed the problem of human trafficking on the sexual revolution of the 1960s and 70s during remarks he gave at a religious conference.
Josh Hawley, the states attorney general and the Trump-endorsed candidate as the party tries to unseat Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill, made the remarks in December at the event Rediscovering God in America, hosted by a Christian political group, the Missouri Renewal Project.
Were living now with the terrible aftereffects of this so-called revolution, said Hawley, according to audio of the event. We have a human-trafficking crisis in our state and in this city and in our country because people are willing to purchase women, young women, and treat them like commodities. There is a market for it. Why is there? Because our culture has completely lost its way. The sexual revolution has led to exploitation of women on a scale that we would never have imagined.
The remarks were published Wednesday by the Kansas City Star. Hawleys campaign later uploaded audio of the event on YouTube and said it had been broadcast previously on a Christian radio network.

Count me as one.
He’s right, but that won’t stop the Bush League Republicans from joining the Democrats in kneecapping this guy.
Well.... there has always been prostitution and human trafficking of women. Why do Republicans insist on saying these things? It doesn’t help his cause.
You can say that again. ..... Oh wait, you already did. :-)
Yes, this is one of our best chances for a senate pickup.
If we are not careful, we will be saying Senator McCaskill
in 2019.

My first thought when I saw the headline was oh $hit, another Todd Akin. I just don’t know what’s wrong with these guys. Yeah this is a problem, but to work on it, you first have to get yourself elected. You don’t need to start your campaign by potentially alienating a bunch of people who might be turned off by this kind of rhetoric in the early going.
He's correct of course....it's a sexed crazed society.
That was my first impression, too, but there's nothing remotely controversial in his statement. It's an observation---not even close to controversial---that they think can be framed in the Todd Akin picture. As I said, earllier: oppo research.
Candidate x was also once caught picking his nose.
Why don’t these candidates focus on meat-and-potato issues like taxes, spending, and limiting government? If you’re going to preach the fire and brimstone stuff, then don’t apologize for it. Don’t answer hypothetical rape and contraceptive questions and tell your opponent you’re not playing his Saul Alinsky game.
Yes, there has always been prostitution and human trafficking but sexual license has never been this widespread or accepted since the end of the pagan world. It is time to say this aloud and fight back.
He is correct
There were red light districts in just about every American city until the Wilson administration shut them down during World War I.
In some places they lasted much longer, Galveston had one into the 1950's.
Yes, but they were for the fringes of society and not socially acceptable. The Sexual Revolution is called a revolution for a reason.
Excellent observations. Conservative candidates must stop shooting from the hip. The Demorats can do it all the time and nothing will be said. A conservative-constant attacks from the media.
Which one can win? Cut the other crap.
He never called it sexual liberation. The Washington Post said that.
