People forget that the head of a committee doesn't have any power to initiate a criminal prosecution. All Gowdy had the power to do was hold hearings, push for evidence, etc..

Before writing him off as a do-nothing, people should consider that him pushing the Benghazi investigation was instrumental in the discovery and advancement of the stories about Hillary's email, which turned out to be a critical issue in the campaign. Had Gowdy not done what he did, Hillary might be President today.

Guys, him stepping down is the same as Bill Schuster or ANY of the other republican committee chairs. They are termed-out of their six years as committee chairs. They don’t want to go back to being powerless backbenchers. They are trying to pressure Ryan into being like the democrats so they can amass power with no term limit. I have all kinds of problems with Ryan, but this is one thing that he’s 100% right about. Let them all go! Bring in new blood. The congress and the party need it.

people seem eager to declare swamp status on all manner of
people based on incomplete or nonexistent understanding.

That’s a good point that I’ve been posting here for a long time. A Congressional hearing is a political proceeding first and foremost, not a legal proceeding.

You're wasting your time. I've tried making that point a hundred times. Some people don't want to know the facts, their minds are already made up.

Good points. Some lose perspective.

I did not know this. This explains the erroneous "all hat no cattle" label I have previously put on him. This was all he could legally do, to hold hearings. As a former prosecutor he was/is probably very frustrated.

They don't forget someone says it overtime Gowdy is brought up. Fact is when the Democrats control Justice we don't ever expect a case to come out of a Republican investigation, but Justice belongs to the Republicans now, so think of another excuse.

He wrote the soon to be released FISA memo.

Very good comment but in today’s Freeper amd liberfarian world, no republican is worthy of anything but scorn. This attitude, will of course, also undermine Trump. The Obama/Clinton crime families and their media are effectively killing off their opposition using republicans to discredit other republicans.
