The Washington Examiner reports that billionaire and Democratic mega-donor Tom Steyer has announced that he will immediately stop all funding to the Democratic National Committee. Steyer, known for his political activism in recent years, was dismayed by how several high ranking Democrats voted in the recent government shutdown kerfuffle over illegal immigration.
I dont have a litmus test on any one thing, but I do have a litmus test for elected officials standing on principle and doing the right thing, looked at holistically," Steyer told Fortune earlier this week. "And I want to say that after the DACA vote, I have decided not to give anything to the national party committees."
Steyer has donated more than $400,000 to several DNC subcommittees such as the senatorial and congressional committees. However, while Steyer will not be giving his money towards the DNC itself, that does not necessarily mean that he will not continue his support of individual candidates and liberal other efforts. As noted by the Washington examiner, Steyer spent $20 million in 2017 on advertisments targeting President Donald J. Trump and encouraging impeachment of the 45th commander-in-chief. He has also spent another $30 million on the 2018 elections.
Last week, Townhall reported that the chairman of the DNC, Tom Perez, was already miserable in his position. Most of his job entails currying favor with the ultra-rich in hopes they will assist the cash-strapped DNC. Steyers disavowal of the group will only continue their fundraising decline as midterm elections are right around the corner.
The bad news: He’ll just give to individual candidates instead.
The good news: It looks like a true believer who will be happy to back whack-a-doos who won’t win or are in safe districts that are going Dem anyway.
Living proof that money cannot buy common sense.
If I had twenty million to donate, I’d give it to FR. Sent from my beach house on the Costa Rican coast, pina colada in hand.
The DACA shut down was clearly a loser for the Democrats even before they did it. Their own polling said it was a stunt that would hurt them. It was foolish to try to bluff with such a weak hand. But they did it anyway.
For as long as I can remember the Democrats moved America incrementally Left. It was like a ratchet. Once you go Left, you never go back. Suddenly they abandoned the proven incremental formulae and went for broke on a bad issue at a bad time. Against a master player like Trump?!
I have to say I LOVE the Dems current leadership. I hope they stay in their positions until they drop dead of old age.
What is it with Billionaire libtards? A-holes like this one and Gates,Cuban,Beezos,Soros etc. are certifiable socialist scum. President Trump broke that mold. Even the Koch brothers are a little off.
I’m not rich but if I was the Democratic Party would be the last thing I would invest in.
They don’t even have a message in 2018.
They start thinking they’re God, that’s the problem.
Oh come on, Mr Billionaire, be a sport! We love the fact that you’ve wasted massive amounts of money attacking our great President Trump—and all for naught LMAO.
Maybe he’s trying to distance himself from the coming storm.
Bill Gates seems to keep his head down more than the others you mentioned, no?

That’s hilarious - dhimmicrats deluding themselves that they have principles.
I keep thinking he wants to impeach President Trump for mental instability.
Yet same guy thinks the Democrats won’t do it. WTF?
Betwwen him and Trump, its easier to see who has lost his collective marbles.
The Washington Examiner reports that billionaire and Democratic mega-donor ... who made his fortune in the oil business ... and now holds with man-made climate change ...
I was thinking for a moment that maybe even liberal democrats are getting tired of liberal Democrats.
blah, blah, blah - he’ll be back when the Democrats anoint their new light-worker and leftist political saint, because then “it will all be different.”
If I were Bill Gates I’d keep a bag over my head.
A lot more of these radical wealthy donors will do the same....they are ruthless, amoral money czars....and they operate behind the scenes with an iron fist. They will brook no deviation from their agenda....as Steyer has just shown in his statement.
Leni
Amen.
