Florida voters will decide this fall if 1.5 million felons will get their voting rights back.
Desmond Meade of Orlando and his group Floridians for Fair Democracy successfully gathered more than 799,000 certified signatures in their years-long petition drive, just a week before the deadline to reach the required total of about 766,000. On Tuesday, the state certified the initiative for the Nov. 6 ballot.
If approved by 60 percent of voters in the fall, the amendment would restore voting rights to Floridians with felony convictions after they fully complete their sentences, including parole or probation. Those convicted of murder or sexual offenses would continue to be barred from voting.
The moment I found out, tears just started streaming down my face, said Meade, a former addict convicted on drug and firearm charges in 2001. Though he went on to earn a law degree, he could not vote for his wife, Sheena, in her bid for the Florida state House in 2016. As someone directly impacted, I cannot quantify the level of emotion moving through me right now.

Dealing with the lower end rental market, which includes a lot of current and former felons, it’s my observation that none of these people are conservatives. (Nor, are they likely to vote, but you never know.)
1.49 million new Democrats.
Letting all those corrupt ex-government officials vote? Don’t let it happen.
Nope.
There is a debt to society for being a felon. Not eligible to vote is one legitimate part of that debt. Being a criminal has its drawbacks - deal with it.
Forget it...this garbage goes in the trash bin. Goal for 2018 is electing Republican, Ron DeSantis Governor and have Rick Scott win the Senate seat of totally useless Democrat, Bill Nelson. Felon voting...no dice...they should of thought of this before they became felons...screw ‘em. Case closed.
Part of an all-out Democrat assault to steal the 2020 election.
All of the challenges to redistricting in courts at all levels is another aspect.
> the amendment would restore voting rights to Floridians with felony convictions after they fully complete their sentences, including parole or probation <
Yeah, I know this would add more Democrats to the voting rolls. But the amendment requires the felons to first fully complete their sentences. So this strikes me as being a rather fair thing to do.
leave it as is!! commit the crime, do the time, ... all of it!!
Watch out Conservatives. The Democrats will attempt to steal this just like they stole Alabama Senate seat.
I will be voting no on this, if it ever makes it on a ballot...
Make sure to legalize pot for them at the same time.
If they could think rationally they probably wouldnt be felons. More dem voters.
At least they get to vote. In Virginia the governor just went ahead and made the change.
Ten million Florida illegal aliens, H1B visa holders, expat New York/New Jersey liberals, and deceased individuals (about half the 2017 state population) will decide this fall if 1.5 million felons get their voting rights back.
There. Fixed it.
Seriously, Florida should adopt the Maine and Nebraska system of allocating all but 2 of their electoral votes by congressional districts while they still have the chance.
Exactly. Too many...including some right here...falsely believe that the completion of a prison sentence is the full “repayment” of the “debt to society.” Not in Florida, it isn’t....And it never will be if enough people vote the way I intend to.
Restore them, but only after they’re dead.
