Big one in Alaska...haven't checked on Tsunami warnings yet...
Says 20km deep and was out in the ocean... Bad news... Prayers up!
Wow info changes fast early on, now says 8.2 at 10km
Just got us out of bed, and we are several hundred miles north of it, a real shaker. Tsunami? Anybody know?
Watches/warnings for most all of the AK coast and down to BC, WA, OR & CA:
U.S. Tsunami Warning Center (heavy load on their servers right now, slow response):
Big, looking up the Tsunami warning as I have family in two places in its path.
That earthquake probably messed up some otherwise healthy Alaskan King Crab.
Not to minimize this event, but the Western Pacific side of the ring of fire has been ominously quiet for the past 3-4 days. On the other hand, the Eastern Pacific side has been getting a WHOLE lot of action it seems.
I doubt that Mayon Volcano’s eruption is relieving enough stress to account for all of WestPac’s slumber.
A verrrry interesting start to the year geologically, astrologically, and politically.
Also a volcano in Japan:

People in Kodiak City are being to told to get to higher ground...not a test.
Thanks for that. I hadn’t been paying much attention to volcanoes to the north of us, because Mayon is getting most of our attention around here!
Peter, Paul and Mary had a song ‘Very Last Day” during my impressionable youth.
One of the lines that stuck in (perhaps was seared into???) my memory was:
“God said a fire, not a flood, next time”
Well, well, well, the song I meant to cite was: “Well, Well, Well.”
Apologies to PP&M for forgetting where their lines belonged.
Friends in Soldotna were rudely awakened, but no damage.
Alaska Ping.
Stilling gathering information on what happened.
Stay alert everyone on the Pacific coast.
Hopefully, the earthquake and volcanic eruptions will be the end of this.
Things have been so bad that a relative of mine was in the middle of the Thomas fire (California) but did not have anything to worry about because a previous fire burned all the brush/grass before the Thomas fire.
I think we have had enough hurricanes, fires, and now earthquakes for a while.
How ‘bout all these wildfires world-wide? Check www.wildfiretoday.com
