It’s an exercise in cryptology.
If there was a secret society it needs to be publicly identified and anyone who was involved; had knowledge of it, but did nothing; was responsible for these people, but wasn’t observant enough SHOULD BE FIRED, LOOSE THEIR PENSION, AND POTENTIALLY BE CHARGED WITH ANY APPROPRIATE CRIME.
This is a moment where no mercy should be shown so that this kind of thing never happens again!

I know. That was the saddest part of the Godfather. I wanted some Luca action. All we really got was a flashback to his welcoming of Al Capone's guys at the train station.

Because we used to have HUGE race riots/fights when I was in high school in the 80s.
The “whites” were basically all Italian and maybe 15 percent Irish.

Anyway, Vito pissed off Capone some kinda way, and Al sent some goons to handle business. Corleone got word, and Luca met them at the train station. Hustled them off to some warehouse or something.
Took an axe to one of them as they were tied up. Started at his foot and worked his way up. The other guy choked to death on his gag, watching it.
After that, Al Capone left New York alone.
