50,000 was the number for the agency during that period...not just Page and Strzok.

That would certainly make a hell of a lot more sense, but that is not what the article says. The first sentence of the article begins "More than 50,000 texts were exchanged between two FBI officials ..."

It’s actually in the article a few paragraphs down. The writer was just sloppy.
