One indiscretion and your life is over. Such was “political correctness” in the USSR where the term was coined. So it is in United States today.
When I read outrage at those sorts of comments, I remember that very likely on these same campuses are classes that are teaching White Privilege and that White Males in particular should be made to pay for what has taken place in our nation.
You see racism is whatever these yahoos say it is, and not anything they say isn't. The get to rewrite reality as they please.
I don't back up what this young woman wrote, but let's not be hypocrites over this. Racism is alive and well in American, it's jut that you have to focus on Whites, and in particular White males. Then you're okay.
This kind of language makes me laugh:
As a progressive, diverse university, we GSU students feel like this sort of behavior should not be tolerated and that Natalia should be expelled from the university.
Georgia State's mission statement states that we provide an outstanding education and exceptional support for students from all backgrounds, and these Panther values are not concurrent with the very disturbing statements made publicly by the GSU freshman and soccer player.
Please support our effort in keeping our university a positive, hate-free environment by signing this petition to have Natalia Gomez expelled from Georgia State University.
I read that as, this person thinks this is a Democrat owned and operated university. (progressive university / as opposed to a Conservative one?)
Exceptional support for students of all backgrounds? I guess this soccer player is an exception to that claim. I would venture to state it's a pretty safe bet that Conservatives WOULD NOT be included in that blanket statement either. Of course I'm guessing these types of folks think all Conservatives use the "N" word, so that's a pretty safe concept.
Positive hate free environment as long as you aren't a Conservative.
Look, again, I don't support this woman using the "N" word here. Still, to expel her with no path to forgiveness? What if she had robbed a convenience store? I'll bet she could have been forgiven then.
With that last name she might have been able to claim some diversity discrimination herself. And probably sue the school over it if she played it right.
No doubt. I also wonder how much detective work it took for somebody to uncover her (semi)private thoughts on this social media channel. I suspect a fellow student had it in for her.
Was she expelled or did she withdraw from the school?
posted racial slurs towards other black student
This is copied from the petition. Seems to indicate she is black as well or is poorly worded.
She withdrew, but one poster underneath that story said she should be denied her withdrawal, and expelled.
Not there’s charity for ya.
Just left a few comments there. Can’t wait for the Replies.
One Poster there wrote “Expell”.
I had to correct their Spelling.
Lots of English Majors signed the Petition I assume.
Its interesting that there is no mention of exactly what she said. Isnt that part of the story?
Also, how am I supposed to know how much faux outrage to gin up if I dont know what she said? ;-)
The petition and comments from GSU grads are semi-literate. One guy talked about what happened “doing [during] my matriculation” there—demonstrating his ability to use a big word while confusing a small one.
Articles these days only write half-truths and leave the reader to fill in the blanks.
It’s the status quo for suspects in murders & rapes as well.
He probably “matriculated” in his Pants when Trump was Elected.
“She withdrew, but one poster underneath that story said she should be denied her withdrawal, and expelled.”
What does that one poster have to do with the actual outcome?
Nothing, just advocacy for a better outcome from her/his point of view.
Although I don’t support use of the “N” word, I’m not convinced a person should have their academic career denied because of that alone.
Her academic career is not being denied.
She quit school.
That is true, but I’m thinking she had very little choice with 500 other student body members dedicated to making her life a living hell on campus.
There was also the likelihood that the school would expel her too.
What did she write, what was the epitaph?
“What did she write, what was the (epithet)?”
Apparently she wrote ‘n-word’ and the goal posts of PC moved again to where if you’re not black you’re not even allowed to use the term ‘n-word’ without facing the same repercussions as if you’d cloaked yourself in Klan robes, raised a Virginia Battle Flag, and walked around with a sign that said ‘nigger’ on it.
The message here is that if you’re going to say ‘n-word’ then you may as well just say ‘nigger’ like all the black rappers do.
If it is an acceptable word for blacks to use, it is an acceptable word for whites to use. Any word.
