I realize I am jumping too far ahead, but when this is all over, I hope we repeal the 17th amendment. Senators should be chosen by their state legislatures, with the specific purpose of serving the interests of their own state and no other.

Popular election of senators has not done this country any favors.

Well, if we're going to repeal the 17th, then why not end the Fed and return monetary control to Congress?

Or, is that part of Trump's plan for a post 2018 sweep and then second term of office?

"Senators should be chosen by their state legislatures, with the specific purpose of serving the interests of their own state and no other."

I fail to see any advantages to shifting the decision-making away from the Washington swamp to the individual state swamps. If anything, the state levels are more corrupt than DC.

For the record, I am not really against what you say, but the reason why we stopped doing that was because it was so corrupt that only Deep State-type people were being nominated to the Senate - some were even buying the seat outright (which isn’t too far off from the way it is now). The public outcry became so significant that we actually passed an Amendment to the Constitution. Think about that. :)

I am unsure that repealing the 17th is exactly the method that will fix the problems is all. Respectfully.

I’m glad to meet a fellow “tank the 17th amendment” traveler. It’s right up there with trying to explain the electoral college vs popular vote. Eyes just glass right over. And it’s so vital to repeal it.
