Depression and anxiety are afflicting Americans who are concerned at the fate of the environment, according to a study of the mental health effects of climate change.

Those hit hardest are women and people with low incomes who worry about the planet’s long-term health, said the study published this week in the journal Global Environmental Change.

Symptoms include restless nights, feelings of loneliness and lethargy.

“Climate change is a persistent global stressor,” Sabrina Helm, lead author of the paper and professor of family and consumer sciences at the University of Arizona, said.

Risks to mental health from climate change are a “creeping development”, she told the Thomson Reuters Foundation. …World leaders mobilized to curb man-made greenhouse gas emissions to fight “global warming” in a 2015 agreement, although the United States has since said it would withdraw from the landmark deal.

“Concern over climate change linked to depression, anxiety “

I think this concern confuses cause with effect.

Yes, the coming Little Ice Age would be something to worry about.

But they shouldn’t be concerned.

We will all be long gone before the glaciers bury NY State again.

WTF ??? What is wrong with these people???

I don’t get depressed because of climate change. The climate has been changing since the first day of the earth’s existence.

Doubtful the near-term concerns that confront low income individuals are trumped by the planet’s long-term health needs.

Man could not control the climate even if they wanted to. Who can make it rain in a draught? Who can stop a monsoon?

All the reductions man could make by restricting fuel usage, for years, could be nullified by a single seismic event.

It is all horseshit developed as an excuse to raise taxes.

“People with low incomes” are the last people to worry about the planet’s long term health/climate, whatever.

They are worried about getting a job after 8 years of Obama’s Marxism and the destruction of a lot of our hiring businesses, about crime (someone stealing their paychecks, welfare checks, etc) as well as just raping and killing them, esp. single mothers, and affording housing/food/health insurance.
