Most of these people feigning outrage at the word “sh!thole” possibly being used accurately wouldn’t blink at calling any American town without at least two Starbucks by names at least as bad.

BS Defcon 1. Haiti is the armpit of the Americas. Just look at a satellite picture of the island of Hispanola. One can easily identify the boundary between Haiti and the Dominican Republic by the complete denuding of the forest on the Haiti side. Haiti has a per-capita GDP of $1,800 compared to $15,900 for the Dominican Republic. The next poorest country in the Americas is Honduras and Nicaragua at $5,000. The people of Haiti have not developed from the East African region they were imported from. I read a book about economic development and the author noted Haiti has the exact same level of development as the region of Africa they came form. Nice to talk about culture if you don’t have to eat literally mud pies.
Yep, time to break out the BIG LIE. Michael Moore and CNN told people that Cuba is a beautiful country full of artists and free healthcare that is superior to our and people just ate that load of garbage up. OK, it’s a little dirtier and less modern that most of the USA. In other words, it’s just like our cities, so the lie goes. College students (or usually their parents) pay thousands of dollars per quarter to live in rental houses or dorms that look like Animal House, squalor is just what hipsters want and gravitate to. Anderson Cooper can go suck an egg.

I have a friend who is a doctor belonging to Doctors without borders. He went to Haiti to train women to be nurses. He had a very hard time getting them not to spit on the floor. If they were pregnant,they thought it would harm the baby to swallow it.
Looks like they are disturbed at the sh*thole accommodations they’re going to have to stay in while on their photo-op to Haiti.
Thats all it takes to make the uninformed among us see things their way.

All of the other countries who subsequently complained about being insulted were, in essence, reprising Curly Howard's "I resemble that remark!" reply.
Like the pastor who, during his sermon, decries adultery - whereupon some noted members of the congregation suddenly stand up and claim that they feel "offended" for being singled out, although no one mentioned them by name.
