It is amazing the number of people who come on threads to announce their ignorance.

A Russian foreign policy expert described Lavrov as “a tough, reliable, extremely sophisticated negotiator”, but adds that “he’s not part of Putin’s inner sanctum” and that the toughening of Russian foreign policy has got very little to do with him.

He is a well seasoned statesman.....I loved it when he called out our loud mouth media for their lack of respect....it was ‘delicious’ when he put Andrea mitchell in her place with all the media right there as well as dignitaries......

"The enemy of my enemy is my friend," is a futile premise. Sure, Stalin was against the Nazis. And sure, Putin and his ilk are against Western progressives. But at the end of the day, Stalin was Stalin. And the Cold War lasted 40 years. Same logic here. Except Putin is not as powerful. At the end of the day, Putin and Lavrov need a "decaying West" and a weak liberalized America to derive legitimacy from.

Shame on you for eagerly siding on the side of the West's destruction. Even as so many powerfully positive developments are taking place.

Did I say any side I was taking?..Of course not. I do however recognize statesmanship in any International leader as well as when they put the utter rudness and disrespect of our media on notice. Andrea’s deranged self perception on full display...Good for him for shooting her down...

Again, “enemy of my enemy is not necessarily our friend.” So what, he shot down a clueless, uncultured, and idiotic reporter. DO you watch Russian State-run media?! It’s Fake News and idiocy doped up on Olympic-style steroids.

“statesmanship?”

What an insult to actual statesman! Part of the reason why the Russian people have had such trouble transitioning to a Federalist-style Republic is because their history and current state of affairs have given them so few actual examples of statesmanship. (Literally: there are none unless you want to debate the legacy of tsar Nicholas II or something, which is why a strong contingent of Russians are monarchists.)

Lavrov is but one face of the most corrupt, slimy, and thieving systems of government in modern history! He is servant to a State which NEVER formally divorced its lineage from the Bolshevik debacle from which it spawned.

They merely switched their KGB garb to business suits and Orthodox crosses. A costume change.

Everything Putin’s Russia, all his ex-KGB pals, all the crony-Oligarchs camped in their yachts off the coast of France —> everything they touch turns to corruption or performance-enhancing dope (in the case of the Olympics.)

And the mere financial hand Putin’s crony oligarchs have in globalist Western banks and the pockets of lobbyists in Washington D.C. was enough for our lamestream media to attempt their hoax-Trump-collusion scandal

Oh there’s plenty of collusion, just not with Trump.

Rather than build up THEIR country’s future, diversify THEIR economy, liberate THEIR institutions, address in a meaningful way THEIR sordid communist history, win REAL sports competitions without cheating — Putin has spent his entire presidency attempting to undermine the West and sow doubts and fears among his people, claiming freedom is a sham, democratic processes never work, and gay people want to eat your children.

Well, guess who in the past 20 years has gone onto have the third fastest growing (and Europe’s highest) HIV epidemic in the WORLD: Russia.

Oh and last week, look what Putin said in an interview, in a documentary about a monastery no less!

Won’t be eating Trump’s!

Lets see the US endgame in Syria first, shall we?

Right now, NATO "ally" Turkey is bombing the sh*t out of YPG Kurds and other US backed SDF forces there.

Not exactly the plan Sec. Tillerson outlined is it?

Nothing overnight.

The way we WIN this is not in Syria, but at home. (Though we should not give ground in Syria which is why we’re there.)

But even still, the key is the home front. One Weinstein fall. One crossed out regulation. One tax cut. One unexpected pregnancy carried to term at a time. (As the March for Life momentum from yesterday reminds us.)

It’s a domino effect, when Western countries post-Brexit, post-Trump, post-Macron (he’s actually doing a good job in France despite not being on the Trump train on many issues.) — when the West gets its act together domestically, then it will only shed light on the weak foundations authoritarian regimes like China, Russia, Turkey, and Iran hinge on.

Consider the recent, MASSIVE protests in Iran. (And don’t let Russian propaganda fool you. It was not a conspiracy. There is a genuine move among the upcoming generation away rom Islamic primitivism towards free political institutions and a sane economic approach to things.)

The Persian Empire wasn’t always Islamic anyway, and Iran was quite the modern country before the Ayatollah’s rise. (And yes I know the Carter administration had some hand in that debacle.)

That’s the direction the world is going in...

Lol...you’re flailing and completely full of crap as usual.

Can you name one thing Tillerson has accomplished in the past year?

Lavrov answered your question about what Tillerson has accomplished:

Lavrov also criticized the US over their plans to provide Greece with US natural gas, and other energy initiatives clashing with Russia's interests in Europe.

The U.S. and Europe: Strengthening Western Alliances

Remarks Rex W. Tillerson Secretary of State:

"Enhancing European energy security by ensuring access to affordable, reliable, diverse, and secure supplies of energy is fundamental to national security objectives. The United States is liberalizing rules governing the export of liquefied natural gas and U.S.-produced crude, and we’re eager to work with European allies to ensure the development of needed infrastructure like import terminals and interconnecting pipelines to promote the diversity of supply to Europe."

"The United States will continue to support European infrastructure projects, such as LNG-receiving facilities in Poland and the Interconnector Greece Bulgaria pipeline, to ensure that no country from outside Europe’s Energy Union can use its resources or its position in the global energy market to extort other nations."

A good throw away line by Lavrov and a bone for Tillerson to take home to show he's being effective...but what is Lavrov really doing by highlighting a nascent Greek-US LNG partnership for criticism?

My guess is he's sending a message to President Erdogan...and look!

Gazprom says Turkey approves second line of TurkStream Gas Link

At the end of the day the real question is whether America's top diplomat should be spending more of his time managing a difficult strategic relationship with Turkey or selling LNG concessions to Greece...ymmv.

The Russians aren’t all stupid, even they appreciated Rex Tillerson’s dealmaking skills as shown by Putin awarding Tillerson the Russian “Order of Friendship” award back in 2013, when he was CEO of ExxonMobil. Their relationship stretches as far back to the year 1999.

Secretary Tillerson has been in power less than a year.

Vladdy Poots and Lavrov have had their time to shape the world as they see fit.

Check back in a few years. We’ll see what the world looks like then. ;)
