I saw a lot of people scrambling for shelters from the blast, but I wonder how many of them realize that if they survived the blast that they would have to hunker down for 14 days to escape the most severest part of the resulting radioactive fall-out? If they come out too early there is a strong possibility of radiation sickness.

I was doing Minuteman Missile maintenance at Malmstrom AFB near Great Falls MT. Part of the emergency plan was to go to a reconstitution site in the nearby mountains after a first strike.

Several of us carried an old wood Diamond match box. On them them we put the address of the designated community and a stamp. Inside the matchbox, we left a note. "If found put us in here and drop in any mailbox".
