Was in Racine WI in Feb.’67 for about 5 days. Snow piled up everywhere on sides of streets. Temps went to MINUS 24*!
I wore my Navy peacoat in the houses and sat by the heat outlets, while the ‘natives’ (wife’s relatives) didn’t even wear sweaters. ...I’m a life-long Texan and hate the cold. 20* here now in DFW and going to single digits tonight.

When I was a kid I recall the sounds of tree trunks exploding in sub zero weather. Sap expansion.

Its amazing what a little frozen water can do. Cracks hard rock and tills the earth for spring. Noisy too.
