The Hawaii public employee who plunged the state into chaos by accidentally sending out an incoming-missile emergency alert Saturday has been re-assigned, according to reports.
The unnamed emergency-department worker will not be fired because he made an honest mistake, said Hawaii Emergency Management Agency spokesman Richard Rapoza to the Washington Post.
“Part of the problem was it was too easy — for anyone — to make such a big mistake,” Rapoza said. “We have to make sure that we’re not looking for retribution, but we should be fixing the problems in the system. … I know that it’s a very, very difficult situation for him.”

Exactly what were the logistics of this “mistake”?
He “won’t be fired because he made an honest mistake.” What utter bullshit. Thousands of lives were at least disrupted and at worst put at risk, and the guy gets a transfer?!
What exactly does it take to get fired from a government job? I sure hope this guy is outed and publicly shamed at the very least.
This smells a lot like that time a Twitter contractor was on his last day and shut down Trump’s account.

Seen a few people fired because their “honest mistake” was big enough to warrant it.
He was reassigned because he is protected by the AFSME Union which has a stranglehold on all of the politicians and tax dollars that are constantly being drained away on inept workers every single day across the Hawaiian Islands... I am praying for Janus to prevail over AFSME in the Supreme Court Decision scheduled next month. It will be a historic victory for taxpayers across the country.
Nothing like government “work” for job security and benefits. And when you challenge them on it the response is “But-but-but we have to be able to compete with the private sector!” And they think we’re stupid enough to swallow that.

Affirmative Action hire? Not qualified for the job but was the correct gender, ethnicity or religion (read: Not a white Christian male). And forget about terminating or transferring the employee because that will completely screw up the diversity chart.
Americans in all jobs, but particularly government, are, IMHO, becoming increasingly less professional and responsible.
for my friends in China, Korea or elsewhere in Asia, the idea that a US warship would simply run into a massive container ship, on a normal clear night, or some Emergency Systems employee makes an “honest mistake” and sends out a message of nuclear war is an utter embarrassment for America. It shows how soft and decadent our society has become.
I don’t want to even think what a politically-motivated stunt might mean for our society.
Many believe this was a Dem-driven "accident" (recall Hawaii is one of only states - the other being Massachusetts - where Hillary won all counties) intended to drum up greater hatred for President Trump and his brass-knuckle approach to North Korea.
