Over a career that has taken him to Afghanistan and Iraq, Col. Patrick Duggan has seen the lethal power of drones. Now, as a base commander in the nations capital, he is worried that frequent illegal flights buzzing over Washington could pose a threat.
In the middle of a federal no-fly zone for drones, in some of the most sensitive and restricted airspace in the United States, technicians working with Duggan recorded nearly 100 drone sightings over two months last summer. And that was just around two Army posts he oversees.
Many of the operators were probably oblivious to the flight ban or just ignoring it as they flew for fun, he said. But hes not sure.
Are they bad guys? Well, we dont know, Duggan said. Its a technology that can be used to attack us at home. Why? Because we are not as prepared as we need to be.
In an acknowledgment of the threat, Congress in November voted to broadly expand the Defense Departments anti-drone powers within the United States. President Trump signed the measure, included in a major defense bill, last month .
An analysis prepared by members of a team at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida specializing in counter-drone operations reported in 2016 that critical assets within the continental United States have already been attacked by nefarious UAS operators.
Members declined to specify the targets or provide details, given security and other concerns.
While no deaths have been attributed to these UASs, it is only a matter of time before these systems are directly or indirectly responsible for loss of life or interference with critical infrastructure in the homeland, the analysis said.

He could kick off Skynet by offering bounties for illegal drones that you capture after you pay your tag fee and register your drone’s serial #.

Washington is a State.
Drones over Washington????
Oh, maybe these elitists mean Washington DC, or District of Columbia.
But that is too hard to say and spell.
“We are elites. We are from W. Respect us. Obey us.”
It’s the Washington Post-———I guess they assumed people will know which Washington they are reporting about.

The first one made an appearance with post #3.
I guess they assumed

That’s my point.
Really good reporting.
Duh, ooh, here, there, then, now, them, ... just because.

Washington DC is the center of the empire. Everything must be controlled
The WaPo is likely populated by know-nothing, self-centered Snowflakes.
I guess this just proves that the Russians are technologically far ahead of the American military. The Russians have shown that they can deal with drones. It appears that Col. Druggan’s troops can do is watch them and fill out a logging form.
Heres to rooting for the drones to level the swamp.
How can they call it a “no fly zone”, if they let them fly?
“I’m not sure” doesn’t sound like a good policy.
Disable the drones, arrest the operators, or it’s just another ball field.
Whoo Hoo!!!
First “Shoot ‘Em All Down!” post after the first “In Before the First Shoot Em All Down” post.
Seriously. Shoot them all down.
Those were just Democrat congresspeople returning to DC from vacations.

The government is going to have to fight this threat via some form of “white noise” projectors around installations and individuals (like on the golf course) who must be protected.
There are drones now that have caught up with SyFi movies and have facial recognition capabilities that can be used for assassinations.
