Say “Al Sharpton” in conservative circles, and the likely response is a recitation of his incendiary past, including Tawana Brawley, the Crown Heights Riot and Freddie’s Fashion Mart.
But people can and do change. And when people on the left change in a positive way, it’s good for us on the right to acknowledge it. So I’m going to say something that might not be well received by some fellow conservatives, but that I believe is true: Al Sharpton has become a more mellow, constrained and responsible person.
I first wrote about it six years ago, during the Trayvon Martin affair. While Joe Scarborough branded George Zimmerman a “murderer” before he had even been arrested, Sharpton was more careful with his language. On his MSNBC show today, interviewing MLK III on the eve of MLK Day, Sharpton acknowledged that in the past, his language had been wrong.

I do believe that Sharpton has mellowed.

Rough translation. Now that I’m rich and I don’t need the race hustling gig anymore I can act like a normal human being.
It’s good Al “the roach” Sharpton has mellowed, but it’s thirty years too late and he destroyed many a life in his quest for self-aggrandizement.
Modern america does not allow redemption. You should know that by now !
People change? Well, I'm glad he won't be fomenting any more riots or arson attacks that lead to death, or any more hoaxes that change people's lives for the worse.
The reverend should atone for and pay for his past crimes. Only then will forgiveness follow.
Someone had to help him with the words of two or more syllables.
I think that’s a fair assessment.
But Sharpton hasn’t withdrawn from the scene. He’s still out there, and his voice is actually, in the scheme of things on the left, a moderating one.
Fair enough.
But could his acknowledgment today that it took him time to learn the lesson from Martin and Coretta King—that he had to watch what he said—be seen as a step in that direction?
Tone it down balloon head.
Did it also take Big Al “time” for him to “understand” King’s hypocritical lifestyle of whoremongering, adultery, promiscuity and plagiarism?
Has he really mellowed, or has he just been surpassed by those who use more strident rhetoric? Has he moved, or has the scale just changed?
Finkelstein? Sounds more like a NeoCon name.
Sure, if you believe what he says. The man's entire life has been based on lies. He will say anything at any time if it serves his purpose. Govern yourself accordingly.

I came to my conservative beliefs through life experiences, reading and reflection.
