>> In New York 18.8 cents per kilowatt-hour for families
The actual energy rate is about $0.07/KWH. But after the fees, my effective rate is $0.20/KWH. So sad.

“Across the river in New Jersey, unions resist any reforms to their payrolls or pensions just as fiercely. The NJ pension system is already $90-billion short of what it needs to pay future benefits, says the Manhattan Institute. The state will collect some $35 billion in 2018 taxes, but any new revenue will go to pension payouts and spending on new government programs. Connecticut is in the same boat.”
This really is the kiss of death for these states; just as American automakers were at a huge disadvantage because of their pension and healthcare obligations compared to foreign automakers, these states have no hope of competing with states (or countries) unhindered by these massive IOUs to their retirees - not just the pensions themselves, but the healthcare provided to retired teachers and such. Anyone moving into, or opening a business in, these states need only look at the last line above - “but any new revenue will go to pension payouts and spending on new government programs” - and realize the infrastructure won’t be maintained to support businesses, and nothing will be left for current services; any new individual taxpayer or company will HAVE to be squeezed to pay people who retired years ago.
