DALLAS - A man who was in the country illegally when he hit and killed a motorcyclist in Grand Prairie was recently arrested for trying to sneak back across the border.
Border Patrol agents tracked 34-year-old Alejandro Pardo-Castro through some footprints and found him near a ranch south of Brackettville on Saturday.
Pardo-Castro had no driver license and was here illegally when he hit and killed Modena Dollison, 43, of Waxahachie, on Hwy 161 near I-20 in Sept. 2011, according to court papers.
Pardo-Castro was convicted of criminally negligent homicide. He served 18 months in prison before he was deported. He now faces up to 20 years in prison for trying to cross the border.

I would love to see what the investment would cost to build a federal prison city in West Texas. Build a city 2 miles x 2 miles with some cheap shelters, big walls and lots of guard stations. Send in building supplies and drop in food. Pipe in some potable water. Put heavily armed guards on the walls and just fill the place with offenders to survive on their own.
You might have to remove a body now and then (or not, the inmates can figure that out).
If nothing else, it could be an expensive research project. But think of how much we could reduce the prison over population in the rest of the country.
Or like bailing out a flooded basement/cellar with a sieve.

And take a serious look at Singapore’s practice of caning for minor offenses. That would make liberal heads explode. But the punishment must do more than fit the crime. It must deter the crime.
good thing he didn’t get to California or he would have been protected.
