Julian Assange Gets Ecuador Citizenship After 5 Years of Living in Embassy

(QUITO, Ecuador) — Ecuador has granted citizenship to WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, who has been living in asylum at the nation’s embassy in London for more than five years.

The nation’s foreign minister announced Thursday that officials had decided to permit Assange’s naturalization while they look for ways to resolve his situation.

Ecuador gave Assange political asylum after he sought refuge in the embassy in 2012 to avoid extradition to Sweden for investigation of sex-related claims.

Sweden dropped the case, though Assange has remained in the embassy because he is still subject to arrest in Britain for jumping bail.

Britain’s Foreign Office said Thursday it had rejected Ecuador’s request to grant diplomatic status to Assange, who was born in Australia.

I once viewed Assange negatively, in that he revealed America’s secrets.

But I later came to see that many of those people keeping America’s secrets are not working in the interest of America or its citizens.

Assange has done more than anyone to reveal the crimes of Clinton, Obama and the DNC.

Sounds like he's still stuck in the embassy then...

Wouldn't they arrest him if he steps one foot off the embassy grounds and tries to go to the airport?

Bastards need to just let him go.

Here is a question for you. Who is the absolute worst person or group of people in the world is that could end up learning the secrets of USA?

Next question, did these people already learn the secrets during the Obama Administration?

Last question, did these people learn the secrets by spying on us or were they handed to them by our Administration on a silver plate?

I realize he has been like a non-citizen for awhile and not truly a Patriot but I honestly have no problem letting him get on a plane to Ecuador and live out his retirement in peace. Ecuador is one of the top nations to retire to according to International Living magazine.

Can’t recall the reason for British charges that forced Assange to post bond and jump bail, or whatever.

The so called “sexual assault” charges (wherever it was they were filed) reportedly were pretty iffy from the beginning, and unprovable in any case.

We have all heard over the years much of what Assange has said on different issues, both political and personal, and his professional assist to a mission of exposing nefarious actors and actions has benefited our side, imho.

Happy to see the man enjoy some measure of relief. He is after all married with children. Sorry to see him suffer 5 years of hurtful consequences over bail jumping. Pay off the bailiff with contributions and forget about it.

I'd like to see them have some fun with this. Send in Julian Assange look-a-likes in the embassy well covered up, and have him leave with a light "disguise" and watch the Brits grab him just to find they've got the wrong guy.

Ditto - much to not like about Assange but he did put a lot of stuff that needed to be aired in the public realm....

I think our good President is stirring the waters here; this is the first step, and Assange will walk free before too long. The man is a hero in my books.

If I were Trump, I’d offer him US citizenship and a ride to the US on Air Force One. I’d also personally pick him up so nobody tried anything to him. Who would risk starting an immediate open war to get to Assange?

Works for me. I have no quarrel with Assange.

It’s all a pretext. The rape charge was simply a method to get him arrested and extradited to the USA to get life in prison.
He did nothing that the NYT hasn’t done. He simply published something classified that he was given. Half the newspapers in DC and NYC have done exactly that.

The Brits charges are related to hearings about the Swedish rape charge. And of course, thousands of violent islamic rapes in Sweden are ignored... and this one guy gets a rape charge for going a bit longer after a condom broke.

The deep state wants him locked up... all the legalisms are just cover.

Ok, so now he’s in the open. I expect he won’t last long on “the outside”.
