A new report in the London-based Al Hayat newspaper says that Palestinian Authority (PA) chief Mahmoud Abbas will appeal to the European Union in an attempt to sideline US President Donald Trump's role in the Israeli-Arab conflict.
The report quoted a senior PA figure who said that Abbas will ask the EU to increase the funding they provide to the PA in order to make up for the budget shortfall should Trump cut American aid to the PA as he has threatened. The source also said that Abbas will "ask the EU to recognize Palestine within 1967 borders with east Jerusalem as its capital".
The EU already announced in October that it plans to increase the amount of aid it grants to the PA from 80 million euro to 320 million euro a year. Abbas is reportedly frustrated with Trump, who he believes is staunchly pro-Israel. Last week, the White House said that it is actively looking at cutting aid to the Palestinian Authority, and held a discussion on the matter last Friday.
The move follows President Donald Trump's tweets in which he expressed doubt over the usefulness of American aid to the Palestinians, given their refusal to resume peace talks with Israel.
"We are reviewing our assistance to the Palestinians in light of their recent conduct, per the president's recent message," an official told Haaretz. PA chairman Mahmoud Abbas, fuming over Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, has announced he would not accept any U.S. peace plan.

Abbas is like the spoiled child (and libs) who when told “NO” by his mother, then goes to his father to see if he can get his way. And like that spoiled child, he’ll keep asking around until he gets the answer he wants.
Mogherini is the enabling father who just gives the child what he wants so he doesn’t have a tantrum.

No, thanks. We’ve had the British and that was enough. And it would be bad for America, too. The soldiers would be targets. It behooves America to have a carrier or two in the Med and the Red Sea, but that’s probably being done anyway for reasons unrelated to Israel.

Abbas, stupid, the EU doesn't vote in the United States. And four year terms here are four years, not lifetime. You need to appeal to blacks and newly arrived hispanics, and of course Muslim refugees if you want to sideline Trump. Best of luck.
I get it, Abbas is a determined, lifelong terrorist. Compared to his lifetime boss, Arafat, kind of a pussy. After Arafat's death he was again presented the opportunity, PLO policy per the phased plan, to establish a state, didn't call it palestinian, weren't invented in the early 60s, from which to launch attacks against Israel. No, Arab troops wouldn't have arrived to help you. Republican guards would have. You would have lost, but that was your shot. And had you lost perhaps those peaceful palestinians we hear of would have found a different kind of leader. Or not.
