Why would you say the inflation calculator was laughable. For a summer job in 1956 I was earning about the same amount as a starting checker in Walmart today. Seems pretty real for me.
The real truth is worse than the government will admit. I moved here in 1972 and my first month electric bill which covered thirty THREE days was twelve dollars. I could buy all the choice T-bone steak I wanted for seventy eight cents per pound. I was driving a very nice car that cost around four thousand dollars. I could take my wife to a buffet where we could eat all the flounder we could hold with salad and trimmings, iced tea included for one dollar and sixty nine cents, the price for a nice steak dinner at Western Sizzlin was the same. We had to rent a place to live while we found a pace to buy so we lived in a rented twelve by fifty mobile home with an adjoining screen room the same size which faced a small river where we fished a lot and our water, sewer and ELECTRIC service were included in the rent of one hundred and twenty dollars per month. My major medical insurance was furnished by my employer at a cost of four dollars weekly! It covered any and all hospital charges one hundred percent after a very small deductible. Do the math.
Oh; you must not watch any TV. All the lib talking heads have been spinning the narrative that the stock market and good economy are Obama’s doing.
Not mentioned is that probably 99% of all poor households have at least one cell phone.
