The Supreme Court appeared sympathetic Wednesday to states that seek to prune their voting rolls by targeting people who haven't voted in a while.

In a case from Ohio, opponents of the practice called it a violation of a federal law that was intended to increase the ranks of registered voters. Justice Sonia Sotomayor said minorities and homeless people appear to be disproportionately kicked off the rolls.

But the court's conservatives and possibly also Justice Stephen Breyer indicated that they would uphold the state's effort.

Why would Ohio even have to go to the SC if dead people are still
on the rolls? Or if people are registered in multiple state to vote.

Because too many judges believe their brief is to block any conservative legislation or regulation by any means.

Besides stopping the plague of immigration, vote reform needs to happen. To leave both will ultimately destroy America.

If you’re registered in a particular place and fail to vote for a while it’s reasonable for officials to assume that you’ve either moved or are dead and, thus, your name should be dropped from the rolls.

It’s not like you can’t get your name back on the list by noting that you’re still alive and living in the district.

Just go down and re-register. All you have to do is be alive.

I live in a hamlet in the Nevada/Arizona area and have to use a box at the post office since there is no street delivery. Once a year we get a form we have to fill out that validates that we live at the address on file. Four lines and a signature.

There’s no reason that the State couldn’t do this for voter registration once in five or even 10 years to clear the books.
