Largest percentage of Hispanics in Maryland could be deported

According to the most recent Maryland census data, Salvadorans make up the largest number of Hispanics in the state of Maryland, at 26.3 percent, which is significantly larger than the national percentage of 3.3.

This week, the Trump administration announced its decision to end temporary protected status for Salvadoran immigrants living in the U.S., forcing nearly 200,000 people to gain permanent residency or leave by September 2019 or face deportation.

Maryland Sen. Ben Cardin is one lawmaker who voiced strong disapproval.

"These are legal immigrants. They came here seeking refuge from tragedy. Now, about one-third of them are U.S. homeowners. They are the parents of more than 190,000 U.S.-born children. Forcing them to leave will tear apart and devastate American families," Cardin said.

U.S. Rep. Andy Harris, on the other hand, argued that the change should not be a surprise.

"The reasons of the earthquakes were over years and years ago. So, I think it's reasonable, since it was a temporary status, at some point, for that status to be rescinded and people to go back to their home countries once those calamities are over," Harris said.

“Devastating to American families”. Really? Solve that problem and send the whole family back.

Why is ‘hispanic’ relevant to this story? Is MD running an ethnicity quota system or something?

MD ping!

I can only hope so!

“Forcing them to leave will tear apart and devastate American families,”

How? Just take all your family with you!

I despise Cardin.

1) obi Ben- they are not legal immigrants. Otherwise we would not be having this discussion
2) is being El Salvadoran a bad thing from which all Savadorans need pity and rescue?
3) families can all go back together. Voila. No separation.
4) 200,000 returning Savadorans is good seed stock for a middle class down there. Lots of entrepreneurs who speak or understand English, lots of people to make their own el Salvador democrat party

Good news for my state and I agree with my Congressman Andy Harris (the only GOP representative out of eight CDs in MD).

Hopefully, more much needed progress will be made to turn Maryland around.
Still, though, at the mercy of the hell hole of Baltimore and the D.C. suburban counties around the Swamp.
Praying that Maryland may see the light and vote for President Trump’s reelection in 2020.

An earthquake is not a good reason to import 200k people, without vetting, without merit, likely lacking in skills like English and likely only good for popping out anchor babies, consuming welfare and working in the underground economy.

Was TPS given to people already here illegally and/or legally (other temporary visa) when the earthquake struck or were they invited here temporarily following the earthquake?

They weren't necessarily legal immigrants - they were just here when the earthquakes happened. TPS:

It provides temporary lawful status and work authorization to people already in the United States, whether they entered legally or not, from countries affected by armed conflict, natural disaster or other strife. The homeland security secretary decides when a country merits the designation and can renew it for six, 12 or 18 months.

Forcing minorities to live in minority majority countries (most of the countries on the planet), somehow violates the Geneva Convention or something.

5. If they knew they were here temporarily, they shouldn’t have bought houses.

Is that because they are Hispanic?

Or because they are illegal aliens?

Or because they have the bad taste to live in Maryland?

While legal, the visa is also conditional and is expired
