Maybe I’m just being dense but...why? The article doesn’t say the ‘asylum seekers’ can no longer be on welfare, just that they can’t become citizens. Most are not that interested in citizenship anyway. So they stay on welfare and are not citizens. Big whoop.

That depends on whether Switzerland allows indefinite permanent residency status to immigrants or refugees. If after a certain point they are required to apply for citizenship, perhaps rejection would mean deportation. Just guessing.
