Well, now we know who the best college football team in the nation is: Central Florida. Wait, what?
There's one team that Alabama couldn't beat. Auburn. Georgia also lost to Auburn. You'd think that Auburn would make it to the playoffs, but they lost a re-match with Alabama, so Alabama went.
But Central Florida beat Auburn... and didn't lose to anyone. But they didn't get to play for a national title.
This nonsense was what the playoff system was SUPPOSEDLY created to prevent: deserving teams not getting a chance to play for the title. Instead, we get Alabama getting a SECOND crack at Georgia, because they won their SECOND crack at Auburn. Again... Central Florida didn't NEED a second crack to beat Auburn.
I'm not saying Central Florida is BETTER than Alabama. Oh, wait, I did, but that was just to get your attention. I'm only saying that if you're going to scrap the traditional bowl game system in favor of playoffs, it's pretty damned stupid to schedule a re-match instead of letting an undefeated team have a shot.
Oh, well... I'm not so sure that Central Florida would have had such a wonderful outpouring of support for Pres. Trump, so at least there's that.
They went 13-o and they beat the team that beat both Alabama and Georgia.
RTR!! National Camps. Maybe the lost the popular vote?
Florida governor: The UCF Knights are clearly champions.
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (AP) UCF had a second straight day of celebrations for its undefeated season while receiving a proclamation from Floridas governor declaring the Knights national champs.
In signing the proclamation, Gov. Rick Scott said on Monday: Florida is home to the countrys best college football, and this season, UCF proved to the world that they can beat any team. By having a perfect season and beating the only team that defeated both Alabama and Georgia this season, the UCF Knights are clearly champions.
Our semipro athletes are better than yours.
Let's get rid of Division 1A playoffs altogether and go back to the era in which each bowl game had its own traditions. In 2018, the Rose Bowl, which started it all, was reduced to a mere playoff--which to me is a travesty.
Put UCF in a real conference and let's see how they do...plus, they had two games cancelled against GT and Maine.
They played:
FIU
Memphis
Maryland
Memphis
Cincinnati
East Carolina
Navy
Austin Peay
SMU
Uconn
Temple
USF
Memphis.
Alabama didn’t even win their own conference! They were only put in the playoff because they have so many bandwagon fans, which would guarantee TV ratings.
If UCF wants to be considered for the playoffs....play a better schedule. The American Athletic conference isn't respected.
Congratulations to the real National Champions, UCF. I look forward to the ceremony President Clinton throws for you at the White House.
So did UCF. The "rules" gave Alabama an unfair advantage by not having to even play a conference championship game, much less win it. The "rules" are clearly designed to give the status quo a leg up on making the playoff, based on who brings in more money, versus who is actually more deserving of playing for the title.
Maybe we can get UCF and NC A&T together and play the real national championship game. < /sarc>
CFB Championships are as real as Global Warming.
When UCF gets in a real conference let’s see how they play week in and week out.
Hopefully so. The Governor of Florida (Rick Scott - R) already recognized them:
Governor Scott Proclaims UCF Knights Football National Champions
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. Today, Governor Rick Scott issued a proclamation declaring the University of Central Florida Knights football team as national champions in Florida after their undefeated, 13-0 season. The UCF Knights beat the Auburn Tigers 34-27 in the Peach Bowl on New Years Day. This season, the Auburn Tigers beat both the Georgia Bulldogs and the Alabama Crimson Tide, who are playing in the last game of the College Football Playoff.
The QB ( a freshman) that started the second half for Alabama was outstanding. Fun game to watch. Georgia was up 20-3 in the third quarter.
Lol. And the President Trump was at which game to see the National Championship trophy awarded to the winner.
Too bad the “best” team’s coach left for a “better” team. :-)
Who else did they play?
UCF was cheated, but the reason why is a scandal in itself. The “rules” gave Alabama an unfair advantage by not having to even play a conference championship game, much less win it. The “rules” are clearly designed to give the status quo a leg up on making the playoff, based on who brings in more money, versus who is actually more deserving of playing for the title.
