I haven’t seen a full service gas station since I was a kid.

Wait until they find out that all the pumps in the rural areas will only service cars with the fill tube on the driver’s side of the car. Then they will really freak out.

Gawd help them if they ever have to change their own turn signal fluid.

We went to Oregon for the first time last summer and I was very surprised when the attendant came over and tome I couldn’t pump my own gas.

I used to drive to Oregon from California to visit my daughter often, and sometimes I’d forget and get out to pump my own gas, but the attendant rushed over to stop me. Then there was the station I stopped in Ashland, where I noticed the posted price was different than the charged price. He said I was supposed to pay for the service, I told him I didn’t think so, so he refunded me the money. I just happened to look at my receipt, think how many people don’t.

I’ve lived in this state my whole life and I refuse to pump my own gas. This is a service only qualified people should perform. I will literally park at the pump and wait until someone pumps my gas.

Anyone who can't learn to do something as simple as pumping his or her own gas has no business driving a car in the first place.

I think I see how great civilizations come to an end. They aren't invaded, and they don't decay from within. They just turn retarded and die.

If you ride a motorcycle they will let you pump, but only after they hand you the pump handle, and they stand and watch.
Cannot remember how many times I have been yelled at there...and I live 500 miles south.
I always forget and just start pumping.

The legislature made sure all the wacko urban duelers who run my state continue to live in a “safe zone” where unskilled minimum wage workers still perform this the highly technical function of operating a gas pump.

I can't say I remember someone else ever pumping our gas. I do remember my mother complain once of having to pump it. Even though I probably wouldn't utilize one due to the extra cost. It would be kind of nice to have the option of one of those old timey gas stations where they pumped it for you, cleaned your windshields, checked your ties and oil or what have you. All with a smile! . Hey, I really liked to 'Back to the Future' gas station scene!

How the heck are gas prices so cheap in Oregon and New Jersey if stations are having to pay attendants to pump people’s gas vs most of the rest of the country with self service? I know our California prices are due to blend and massive amount of taxes, but dang, those prices should be considerably higher than neighboring self service only areas.

I live in N.J. where we have attendants who pump our gas. At one time they really were attendants who cleaned your windows, checked your oil, and put air in your tires. The stations with the best “service” were the most successful and the lazy ones would fall by the wayside. None of those services are needed with the cars of today. I live in a small town and go to the same station regularly. They let me pump my own gas which I do most of the time. I enjoy getting out of the car and BSing with the guys. It is a part of my day. I would miss my BS time when I get gas.

Yup, it is true. Happened to me one day when we traveled from Bremerton, WA down the coast sight seeing. We stopped at a Cosco and I got out and started to pump the gas and a kid come running over and said I could not do that. I said, what do you mean I cannot pump my gas. He said it was a state law that only he could pump it. I asked what the heck he was talking about. He said that in Oregon you had to be specially trained to pump gas. I asked how old he was and he said 17!!! I started laughing and said, BOY, I am 62 years old. I have been pumping gas since I was 9 or 10 years old. I worked at a gas station as a teenager and pumped thousands of gallons of gas, and you are going to tell me YOU know more about pumping gas than I do??? He said, well sir, if you want gas in Oregon, we have to pump it. I said, hell, do it so I can get out of this pig pen of a state!!
